I just started a new game. Its very difficult, even on the beginner setting. Are there mods that make the game a tad bit easier out there, or do I just have to suck it up and keep trying?
It gets easier when you research better whepons. [editline]30th December 2011[/editline] actually it doesn't.

I had a lot of fun with this multiplayer remake awhile back: http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/
i JUST told a bunch of my buddies who were getting in to ja2 about all of my war stories one of them involves magic wearing an EOD suit (FOR SIMULATION) to defuse a bunch of mines for the rest of my group to infiltrate an enemy-occupied sam site at night time. reaper was with him doing guard duty. i had reaps stalking this patrol. meanwhile, magic, carrying nothing except for this over-cumbersome EOD outfit, an m9 and defusal kit was working his way southwest to defuse the mines and pack them away in to rucksacks to be carried back later for mad money well, anyways, long story short magic ended up getting caught and he and reaper, reaper with an M14 and magic with his pistol (and later a mossberg 500 stolen from a baddie's corpse) managed to take out the entire response group and patrols while ex-filtrating back to their exit WAS AMAZING SHIT DOGE [editline]19th December 2011[/editline] also magic got shot about 20 times and never got wounded. just winded. that's why it was such a pain in the butt for him to get out of the heat. i ended up having him ditch all of the EOD pieces except for the center-mass armor and helmet so he could move quicker. try explaining that to your merc buddies when you return to camp without your pants [editline]19th December 2011[/editline] also this is with 1.13 unnoficial patch + various other mods word of advice: if you're playing JA2, get 1.13 and some mods. 1.13's new inventory alone makes it worth it and that doesn't include the plethora of other amazing things added in too like improved line of sight etc
first time i played i used 1.13 but i didnt bother this time as i thought it was supposed to make the game harder

Besides researching laser weapons and some armor really increases your chances on taking on the aliens.
Incase anybody hasn't seen/heard of it yet, Xenonauts looks like a pretty good re-make type thing. Oh it's in the OP, oops
Does anyone know how to properly install Xcom Util? I might add a tutorial in the OP because it is a really useful modification. I never managed to install it properly.
I just fanbay'd all over my pants! [editline]5th January 2012[/editline] IT'S THE FIRST FUCKING PROPER X-COM GAME SINCE ORIGINAL ENEMY UNKNOWN!
Daily deal on complete pack? £3.05 for all? Thanks Steam!
Daily deal on complete pack? £3.05 for all? Thanks Steam!
I just picked it up myself. It seems interesting and a lot of people here seem to enjoy it so it can't be half bad. Plus I enjoy sci-fi strategies.

Such as Dungeons of Dredmor after seeing Totalbiscuit playing it.
For anyone who starts playing the game, watch some let's plays on youtube. They really help you out at first. Maybe check the wiki, especially for the research tree. I do agree that Totalbiscuit and the yogscast promote games pretty well.
I'm enjoying the UFO trilogy I got on Amazon for £4, It's slightly to X-Com but it's fun and mostly story/universe base.
Damn it Game Informer, you're a shitty magazine, BUT I NEED THOSE SCREENSHOTS!
Cool, I think calling the subtitle "Enemy Unknown" is quite stupid though, mainly because it was the subtitle of the european version of X-Com: UFO Defense (aka UFO: Enemy Unknown).

That alien on the magazine cover looks like the one from "Destroy all Humans". :v:
Decided to pick this game up on Steam, £3 is a steal for the complete pack! All those reaction shots yo, get killed every 5 seconds.
why does that XCOM guy not have any Guile hair?
why does that XCOM guy not have any Guile hair?
[editline]6th January 2012[/editline] It's quite sad though that he doesn't wear classic X-Com gear. Though it does look a bit similar.
Any mods that are recommended for a first play?
This game is hard even on Easy. My first playthrough consisted of my squad getting wiped out in minutes. My second playthrough was a bit better after watching Yogscast but I still couldn't kill off a town full of those buggers. I focused on laser research to get better weapons and although it helped, it wasn't enough. And it feels so slow that I didn't want to even bother clearing the town and just quit. It's a fun game mind you, it's just going to take some getting used to.

It'd be so rad if the new Firaxis version had a remake of the original themes. I love the title and geoscape music. THIS GAME IS GOING TO RULE AAAAAA [editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
on the current stream i dont think he is using any mods
Complete offtopic but I love seeing how people still use the Raisin avatar I made :3
I love seeing how people went with the name I chose :3 Only just realised after going back to that thread, gotta name my Guile soldier Raisin now.
