Oh my god! These guys understand X-Com, they're one of us.
I completely trust them with the remake now.
Take my money Firaxis, take all of it!
Well the new Xcom game will be somewhat decent, but they should take another title.
You mean the "Cold War Against Tetris Blocks" one?
How exactly is this not an X-Com game based on what we know about it so far? And what are exactly those new gameplay, aliens and setting you talk about?
I don't think there's a single picture or video from it, if you don't count that magazine cover and it features the classic Sectoid, X-Com operative and modern city, just like in our beloved Enemy Unknown.

Reading you post again made me realize that you're probably talking about "XCOM" and not "Xcom: Enemy Unknown" which has been announced more recently than "XCOM" and hence is the true "new X-Com game".
Did XCOM even come out? I remember hearing literally nothing about it after I saw some mediocre trailer.
I keep telling myself "at least it won't be as bad as enforcer."

They postponed it to the end of this year, around the same time as the reboot.
Many fans think/hope that XCOM wll probably never get released, because of the reboot.
i hope XCOM doesn't release around the same time as xcom: enemy unknown, it might put off newcomers to the series
sounds to me like firaxis are talking a lot of jibberjabber out of their butts
BUT oh well, who knows! it can't be any worse than the dozen knockoffs with the same name. at least they're making an effort this time.

I totally misunderstood that and confused both games, I thought the new fps shooter that is being created. Sorry pal.
There are 3 X-Com games coming out this year, one of them bound to be good. My bets are on Firaxis though.
I did not know about that other one though, definitely looking forward to that.

No problems, I figured that.
No official Xcom but awesome:
OpenXcom: http://openxcom.org/ Open-source reimplementation of the original X-Com
Ufo: The Two Sides http://ufotts.ninex.info/ Project - freeware fan remake of Ufo: Enemy Unkown / XCom: Defense (Project close, but if you are smart you will find the last version)
X@com http://xcomrl.blogspot.com/ Roguelike + Xcom
UFO: Alien Invasion: http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/News 3D
UFO Series, Xenonauts and Extraterrestrials should be added there as well.

can we just not mention that game in this thread
When questioned as to why XCOM is not an isometric strategy game, 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann answered "pure strategy games are just not contemporary"
whatever it is, it's not a fucking X-COM game
It's simple, 2kgames want a sci-fi fps and a game sell more with a "famous" name.
I have faith in Firaxis, they're pretty good with turn-based gameplay, figuring that they made Civilization.
I hope that they hit the arts and graphics right, not to cartoony or extremly exagerated. The front cover looks amazing. Hopefully the soundtrack will be epic. It is one of the most vital aspects.

It could have been cartoony if they styled it after the original X-Com intro/research screens/background.
Speaking of which, Hasbro wanted to release an X-Com cartoon. The idea would have been great if it was an opposite of GI Joe - the team constantly loses and dies out, trying to stop the overwhelming alien forces.
Yeah but the setting was still dark and grim. It just fit so well together. I just don't want it to look like UFO Afterlight.

My pro UFO defence skillz
Pretty similiar to CoD montages :v:
I love the game, I play it on my netbook along with a bunch of older games.
I finally beat the first X-COM the other day, feels good.

I know they won't but I would really like it if they preserved the original comic book style look.

I think it funny how normal games have a difficulty curve like an ascending line, mostly, while UFO Defense has it's difficulty curve other way around.
The more you play the easier game gets, finishing with a push-over final mission where your enemies are such panzies that you don't even lose anybody.
It does create a great feeling though. When you start you feel completely devastated by unknown forces armed with advanced weaponry but then you slowly steal their tech, learn about their species and at the end you realize that aliens aren't this huge threat you thought they were. They're just a bunch of stupid meatbags run by a dozen of overlords.
Here's some content folks.

Don't let us down Firaxis
I quite like the looks. It's not the comic book I was looking for but it's not too dogshitbrown-metalgray-lotsofbloom.
As long as they manage to capture the crushing sense of doom the 1994 original had I don't mind if the graphics are cartoony or not.
Graphics look really cool, but what are those guys in suits?
