Somebody's probably pointed this out already, but I found it intriguing that both Miranda and Grunt were more or less artificially bred and crafted to be the perfect examples of their species; both to be the legacies of their respective "parents". Just noticed that, thought it was pretty poetic.
Grunt didn't whine about it every time you talk to him though.
Grunt didn't whine about it every time you talk to him though.
Indeed, but it seems like they're two sides of the same coin. Grunt takes pride in his perfection; Miranda finds fault in it.
Miranda was created by an old man to continue his work after he died, if he could have achieved immortality that would be just as good. A pointless purpose to build someone for and one she rightly rejected, now she wanders unable to find her own purpose, one that can permanently replace her fathers one.
Grunt was made by a powerful and hated Warlord to be a perfect example of his kind and to follow it's traditions for the betterment of his race. His goal was not selfish and although he wanted his Legacy to do his work, he instead found his own enemies. This did not matter though, the spirit of the Krogan was still in him and every purpose was strived for. His work lost it's value as a tool against old enemies, but remained a masterpiece.
[editline]3rd May 2011[/editline]
Grunt takes pride in who he is because strength has value to the Krogan, he was made only to be strong. Miranda takes it as a curse because humans do not see genetic perfection as a goal of any significance. Even if her genetics are strong, he is still weak in many other ways. She was only made strong as a side thought and her real goal is long lost.

All true. Still, I can't shake this feeling that there's some type of symbolism there.

Take advantage of hot girls with daddy issues?

Yeah, pretty much. So glad I go to a quasi-suburban high school. That's the general rule of existence, there.
[sp]Except I'm a nerd :([/sp]
And now on the topic of...well, the thread, I'm back to restarting my ME1 playthrough now that we have all the ME2 DLC, so I'll get to do a full playthrough the way it was meant to be.
Whether it is a metaphor for raising children or about actual genetic modification is unclear and can be taken either way. Miranda was made and raised for a goal her father wanted with no consideration into what she would want, a standard view into a rebellious child. This puts her father into a non-stop pursuit of her and Miranda into an existentialist crisis because the only goal she has ever known, to follow on from her father is wilfully refused, both are damaged.
Grunt is created to fight, an innate want in all Krogan. You could compare it to wanting a child to be happy or to succeed, something not specific and is known that they would want to follow this path if they had a choice. Okeer gives him direction, tells him who to hate, but he rejects these minor details and follows his own path. One which although different, still reaches the same goal. Okeer would likely be irritated over his enemies not being fought, but would no doubt approve of Grunt keeping to the spirit of the Krogan and fighting strong enemies.
Just a sort of random question; but is it ever confirmed if Turians have hollow bones? They are descended from birds after all, and they go down pretty easily when hit.
They're a little stronger than humans, if we're going by gameplay then Turians have more HP than normal humans. Overall I think they are stronger, but there's much less variance so you're much less likely to see an abnormally strong Turian while abnormally strong Humans make up most of the decent combat teams.
The Wiki doesn't have anything on their bone structure and although I can recall something about Turian bone structure being dense, I think it was from a fan comic. Overall, it wasn't confirmed.

Jack was raised and trained to be humanity's strongest biotic, Thane was raised aand trained to be the perfect drell assassin.
Jacob, Tali and Miranda all have father issues, Thane and Samara both have to make ammends for mistakes they've made as parents. Liara, Zaeed and Garrus are seeking revenge for a betrayal.
Lots of repeated themes among party members.

Yeah, noticed that too. On the surface, ME is just a kick ass scifi series, but when you get into the nuances of it, it's pretty smile inspiring to see all the subtleties the writers slip in.
Thane is different because his upbringing didn't conflict and any issues would have been solved long ago instead of Grunt, only recently dealing with them and Miranda's repeated torment by them. Jack is also different as she was an experiment, not a child. Grunt and Miranda had their path set out for them, Jack was a test subject with no future. Once she was what she was, nothing was planned and she could do what she pleased.
Miranda and Grunt are similar (with the genetics being the key part) in that they were programmed to be something, both through genetics and upbringing, a goal which conflicted with them. For Miranda, the details were clear but the direction was rejected, it tormented her. For Grunt the direction was clear but the details did not take, he made his own path while sticking to his programming. There is something there unique to the two.

The rebellious child, their long set path rejected, their legacies lost to the wind.
One of them, Miranda, her father insists on return and so she runs. The pursuit only puts distance between them and tortures both, nothing is gained.
The other, Grunt, Okeer cares not for who he fights, it was only his preference. He only maintains that he fight, and do what he is made for, Grunt accepts. Grunt fights who he pleases, the Legacy has strayed but maintains it's integrity. A different path taken, adapted, all is well.
From what i gather from the Mass Effect books Quarians are similar to humans....Great now Hybrid's plague my mind
((Even through that Quarian died from sickness and was complete mad by then))
I finished Revelation on saturday, going to hold off on Ascension until after I finish ME1...
I want this as a renegade move in ME3

I might be a year late but, are they actually gonna do this?
On May 24, 2010, EA announced that Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to a Mass Effect film, with Mass Effect's executive producer Casey Hudson as well as Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck from BioWare serving as the movie's executive producers. Legendary Pictures plans to produce the film with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avi Arad.[17] The producers are in negotiations with screenwriter Mark Protosevich about penning the script. The Mass Effect movie is in the nascent stages of development.[18]
Yes they're making a movie. Anime movie.

Better than shitty CGI, a Hollywood fuckup or something so low budget it makes porn seem cinematic.

I'd still want a proper movie over anime, though. Could turn out to be amazing, especially if they have Yvonne Strahovski playing Miranda.

I'd rather watch porn than anime.

Oh come on, Anime's not that bad. Cowboy Bebop and Moomin for example.
Note that I don't want it to be Shepard's story, though. We, the players, choose our own paths there, and the ending. But that doesn't mean we couldn't have characters from the games. I mean, we could follow Tali's future life (Instant success within the Talimancer community), Liara, Miranda, etc.
The only reason I mention Yvonne and Miranda above is because it's a human (which is more likely in a movie), and the face of Miranda is basically Yvonne's face in a game.
[editline]3rd May 2011[/editline]
Automerge fail...
Have they confirmed what the movie is about, by the way?
[editline]3rd May 2011[/editline]
It can't have Shepard since it's BioWare.
Think it was about the first contact war, or at least that's one of the main ideas they were thinking about. Interesting concept, in the ME universe and doesn't require people to have played the games to enjoy them.
We can't really have any of the characters from the games, since ex. Tali can be kicked out of the Fleet and die
More because what's the point in interacting with the game? The books had different characters and stood up on their own well enough, why feel the need to recreate game characters?
