Except unlike most whiny parental sob stories, Wrex's daddy issues mainly revolve around how best to kill him and take over his clan.
Wrex isn't a father issue any more than he interacted with him. He grew up, disagreed with him, killed him, then moved on to do what he wanted never to think of him again. Wrex is a healthy, normal Krogan, nothing fucked up about him.
That's what makes it great, though. He slaughtered his own father with a knife, and it's considered the expected move of his species...

If a Krogan becomes so old and decrepit that they need someone to take care of them, they'd be better off dead.

Exactly, a Krogan in his old age is still a force to be reckoned with. If he has somehow avoided getting killed for so long that he has become diseased and unable to fight, he is an insult to his former self and better off dead. A mercy killing would be begged for.

One path of many, giving him power again is a call back to his strength and saves him from his weakness. Whether by regaining his strength or death, he is better off.

Whilst Krogan philosophy would dictate death would be a better alternative to his situation, I had to act as his Krant and try to regain his lost honour. Didn't have the heart to let him go and get himself killed

Betrayal is a common factor in many games.
Betrayal is common in real life, it makes sense that games follow this too. Maybe not so sudden as in most games, people don't often right in front of you go from friend to enemy without remorse, it's much slower.
I hate games where you get fucked over at every turn (yet in virtually no games do you do the same to anyone else)

You can do that in Mass Effect in a sense, I'd count purposefully letting the Council die a form of betrayal.

I suppose, though the council did fuck you over and get your ship grounded before hand, so I think it's kind of justified.
Or maybe that was solely Udina. Either way the council were dicks. I only saved them to give humanity a good rep with the other races.
