Making outcomes totally contrary to what all evidence would suggest is a pain in the ass.

Hopefully the conflicts between species wont be so divisive that you can't unite them all. Isn't that the point? Unite the galaxy against the reapers, not deal a major blow to half of the species so that the other half will follow you.

It sounds like if you pick the paragon options you're forced to pick between the races or at least have the option of uniting both races, while choosing renegade options make it fairly obvious which race you should support.

In that case siding with the Krogan would be an awful idea for the epilogue but probably an excellent one for facing the Reapers.
It still depends on which choice is where on the dialogue wheel though.
