I am dissapointed in you for playing ME2 before ME1. But there's no way you'll be able to play the first one now, going from ME2 to ME1 is such a transition.

You don't have to worry about Calibrations just yet. Incidently, when you meet a fellow called Garrus, be sure to chat to him lots, because by the time ME2 comes around he wont have any time for you :smith:

Do all the companions achievements; try to reach level 60 without doing sidequests; use your pistol, it's better than everything; elevators takes about 30 seconds to load on PC but still boring; try to find all the resources to the Alliance with using the Mass Effect Wikia.

Maybe. You'll survive but you'll miss out on a lot. But as Weekend said, It's annoying to play ME1 after playing ME2

So I got a free copy of ME2 due to owning Dragon Age 2. If I don't play ME1, will I miss out on important information on the story and everything or does ME2 do a good job at explaining everything that's going on in the game world?

Mass Effect 2 is a standalone game, like Dragon Age 2, you don't need to play the game to understand everything, but if you did, it'll be better.

Thanks. I heard ME2 is a better game than ME1, and don't want to buy and play through hours of an apparently worse game just because I got it's better sequel for free. Maybe if I like ME2 I'll end up getting ME3... sneaky Bioware, really sneaky.

It's not worst, it's different. There are things that are better in first (RPG elements, sense of epicness, story) and things that are better on the second (Combat, squad characters [probably], the lack of Mako). You'll be really missing out by not playing the first one.

Make sure that you have like every ammo extending upgrade and armor piece. I always find myself on the brink of using my fists against Scions on that mission

I mean hell, why so objective about it anyway? Mass Effect is a perfectly fine game.
But really, I don't understand people like you. Where is the logic in this? I am sorry.
