in my insanity playthrough I brought grunt and miranda to the final battle. sent mordin with the survivors
i accidentally killed tali 3 times
This last time i brought Miranda and Mordin to the final battle, I handled the reaper and they helped to take out Harbringer
Heavy Warp*2+1 heavy incinerate + Mattock
Bastard went down in seconds
I lost my Vent guy (Legion) because Miranda made the point of saying the squad leader had to be able to "Lead by experience". What did Samaras description say? "Centuries of experience"
I thought there was a connection. Not thinking that her experience had nothing to do with leadership
I thought it seemed only logical to send Mordin back with the crew. He ran a clinic after all, he knows how to treat wounded/sick people on the fly with very little resources, and he's got that whole 'need to save everyone possible' mentality. Seemed like he'd be the best candidate for the job to me.
i ment to choose zaeed but chose jack by accident. shit hit the fan either way.
I've never lost anyone on any of my playthroughs

Why did you send Legion in the vent? Tali is best for that.

They have Chakwas to treat the wounded, and I doubt Mordin would be able to help them when he's meant to be fending off collectors. I figured the best choice was someone good at straight up killing everything that gets in the way. Zaeed, Grunt, etc are rather good at that.
Though this whole thing is a moot point seeing as anyone loyal works

Legion is highly technically skilled, definately on par with Tali if not better. But unlike Tali he is a synthetic so doesn't hesitate or fumble. In the hot, cramped vents with very high risk of being burned alive, the fearless machine seemed better than the nerdy engineer.
Mordin can fucking incinerate the shit out of collectors.
So useful on Insanity as an adept.

I always wondered why Zaeed and Samara weren't acceptable options as squad leaders, while Jacob was. I suppose the logic is that Zaeed is always the sole-survivor, and Samara works alone.

Zaeed, Grunt and Garrus have the highest Hold The Line scores though, so by getting rid of one of them, you risk losing someone like Mordin or Kasumi, as their scores are significantly lower.

This. Struck me as a more practical choice; Kasumi and Tali are fallible, need to think, and get hot. Legion is logical, efficient and a synthetic.
I wonder if Billy the lunatic convict will make an appearance in ME3...

I like you.
And I dislike Kiril for rating this stellar post dumb.

Well he did say he was going to hunt you down and kill you eventually...

Who is Kiril anyway?
Reveal yourself sucka'.

He is the ghost of the Mass Effect Megathread.
Ever vigilant, but never revealing his true intentions.
Sadly this is a forum and not a comic, so that's not so cool.
Kiril, just post dude, we wont bite (unless you want us to)
Show yourself hellspawn

it would suck if he gets Shepard in the epilogue
Hmm, just re-reading the GameInformer article. While I get the impression that Anderson will be making an appearance as a (probably temporary) squad member, I was disappointed to see him in what looks like Alliance security armour. He was one of the first N7s - and damn right he should be wearing armour recognizing him as such.

He's just one nut. Shepard has killed Reapers.

Characters become significantly weaker when a player isn't controlling them though.
Actually that depends on the game.

Not directly.

He killed Sovereigns avatar. And hordes of husks, mercenaries, prisoners, Collectors, the Human Reaper, etc.

In my playthrough I sent Tali and not a single person died.
In my playthrough I sent Tali and not a single person died.
It wasn't my choice of Legion that caused deaths, it was my choice of Samara as fire team leader.
Pretty much every playthrough I sent Legion, and he only died on my first one. In my other playthroughs with a better fire team leader he survived (and did a fine job might I add)

Perhaps you mean Spectre? Or Spectre candidate? Because there's not really anything "special" about being the first N7. That MOS has existed by various names in virtually every military on earth since at least World War II. SAS, Delta Force, that sort of stuff. He would just be continuing on that legacy under a different title.
First time I played it I had Jacob on Vents and Samara on fire team, Jacob died. Then Zaeed for some reason didn't manage to survive the distraction team while Miranda could of. Additionally Mordin died holding the line. 3 good people died.
And now because I know the way to save everyone, I can't do anything else. It just feels like I'm sending them to their deaths intentionally. Like I'm not a fan of Tali or Jacob but just killing them off because I can rather than because I had no choice just feels wrong.

The very first playthrough, not being totally sure who was right for each job, was definately the most fun.

...
If you don't know how to read.
They literally tell you who to take, and as Miranda is an idiot (works for Cerberus), I ignored her advice.
Epic win.
Hopefully 3 will have far less handholding.
Tali in the vents as Legion was on my fireteam, Garrus for both squad setups, Jack for shields, Mordin for crew, Samara and Legion while Garrus was busy, Garrus and Legion for the HR. Simplicity itself.
