Lol, no. There are a shitton of maps, most of them are good. The tank maps you are talking about are tank-focused combined arms maps. Try something like Konigzplatz or Tractor Factory that are infantry focused.
Also, Darkest Hour sucks the root. Except for tank combat. That's alright.

I just tried playing the game not ten minutes ago. I found 10 servers, only like 6 didn't have 150+ ping for me and they were either running tank maps or only had a few people on.

eh, Red Orchestra was kind of dissapointing. There's only one Australian server, and that had 5 people on it. I went on another server, it was alright, but It was fucking annoying because whoever gets the Sniper is going to dominate. I met some Facepunchers though. I saw Mr.Someguy and some other Facepuncher on the server.

Stop looking at things like that. Whoever get's the platoon's attached marksmen, if he is playing right, is a great asset for the team in keeping the enemy's heads down, providing recon data, and being a pain. They don't "dominate", because there are very easy countermeasures to them.

It's not about shutting down, it's about player count. Usually, the 2 The Wild Bunch servers have between 45 and 50 people in them, as does the Russian Community server, and a few German servers.

The ping really isn't that bad. You only have to worry if it goes over 200. As for horrible maps: it's called a map rotation. Unless you mean the Danzig server, in which case: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Also, what's wrong with custom maps? Tractor Factory is amazing for instance.

Don't ragequit on your first try. It's very hard. I was lucky in that I got my first kill after only 2 deaths. The game is usually not so generous. It only gets easier and easier.
