If you remember, it was me, when I promised you the permanent euro server. Dad has got pretty good server, and it will probably even be on T1 in about a month. I will do my best to push through having my server running in there, and it could run 24/7, probably having the best possible position for Europe server, as Prague, where we are living, is practically in geographical center of Europe. I will inform you more as we get the physical server running, and once I see if I could run the game server on it. Only problem I see is, that I would if possible need Linux server binary, or at least possibility to run it without graphical interface just through console, or just to be able to launch it without any output whatever from config file or command parameters. If it wouldn't take too much CPU and RAM to run it under wine, I wouldn't have problem with the Windows only binary, but the text/no input output is essential, as the machine has no graphical output and is accessed only from network.
yup I remember.. that'd be really great man :) I *think* that it will work without a monitor/display but haven't tested it yet.. we shall see!
Its a shame its not in XNA and C#, could of been cool on xbox live.
Its a shame its not in XNA and C#, could of been cool on xbox live.
It's fucking luck it isn't C#, because it probably wouldn't run under Wine.
Oh god Virus mode in timesplitters. So much Stress when you're the last player and 16 enemies roaming around just to touch you in about every corner. Timesplitters games are awesome.
How about an Assassination mode where one person is disguised as one of the players, everybody has only a knife, but the Assassin has a special knife that can do a 1-hit kill from behind.
Wow. I have to say this looks really fun. I will get around to trying it.
You should tell www.rockpapershotgun.com about it. If it's good they'll most likely make a blog post about it and you'll get lots of people interested.
Looks fun. Got my download.
Great game, please keep up work on this. You have done a great job with it.
Larikang, I took your advice and sent them an email. Great suggestion. Hopefully they reply soon :) And Nic Nac we're only up to version 0.53... only halfway! Plenty more development to look foward to.
Awesome game, but the UI is pretty bad. It's so confusing. What's mutation? Couldn't find anything about that easily. The pistol quest is too hard for me to do. The first quest shouldn't be so difficult. I don't even know why you can choose your skills outside of a game? At first I thought it was permanent but I joined a game and then I had 0 skills. When I left I still had that skill point out of game. The game simply needs a tutorial or help pop ups. The performance is very well, I just have a slight mouse lag. Maybe be more descriptive in the options section. Overall I'm very impressed and you're my hero.
Wow, this game is really fun! Great job!
Wow, I'm pretty imprressed with how good this is.
I enjoyed getting spawn camped three times in a row and that was the end of my subvein experience.
Thanks SamPerson123 and The Mighty Boatma :D Shadaez, I agree the UI could do with some work. The reason why you can unlock skills outside of the game is because eventually there'll be another game mode (called WAR) where your characters skills are permanent. Eitherway, I should probably disable that feature until it's needed. There's an FAQ on the website that describes all the basics that you need to know.. and the same faq (though slightly less detailed) can be found in the OPTIONS menu of the game as well. Glad you had fun playing it though! Lap, it's a shame you got spawn camped. I should've mentioned it earlier, but when you spawn you actually have 10s of invulnerability so you cannot be damaged. This gives you time to buy your weapons (B) and prepare for the fight. This invulnerability disables as soon as you shoot your gun or walk out of the spawn zone though which you may have been doing. You can tell when you're invulnerable because your character will be flashing and have a gray octagon surrounding him.. and it'll also display a shield and a countdown timer in the bottom left corner of the HUD.
Had a go at it (and saw you on the server I was playing in). It was fun but one major design flaw was that I sucked at it :v:. But yeah. After a bit of experimenting I found out that the shotgun and energize (makes your bullets kick ass) was a killer combination. I queued up a ton of them and after every kill I was getting stronger and stronger. As for the spawnkilling I think it would be better if you made your maps with high ledges that you can drop down from to enter the fray. This way the player has as much time as he needs to prepare for the fight. That way you could also have multiple possible exits from the spawn area to make spawncamping even harder to pull off (as you would need to cover all exits) Edit: Oh and the level requirements to get some of the higher skills are a bit too high if you ask me. On a fast paced game where the skills restart every round it's pretty hard to reach the requirements for them. Also a way to undo skill choices would be nice (and it would allow for fast reassignment of skills. Just make it so it takes effect after next respawn).

hehe yup, they plugged it.. Pretty cool huh! And the amount of traffic I've got since then.. insane. To put things into perspective.. In the 4 months since Subvein first released as v0.5 the most downloads in a single day was 69. Then 2 days ago it was 120. Yesterday was 150.. since that rockpapershotgun post.. 730!!! Truely amazing. Thanks again Larikang for the great suggestion. Any more sites like that you know of? :D :D
Awesome, I plugged this in the free games thread a while back, good to see you came in here and made a thread on it :D
Just sent this in to kotaku.
Y'know, for once I don't actually hate a person for joining to advertise their crap.. Because this is actually quite good.
thanks guys, I'm really glad I posted here. Everyone's been really nice and supportive. Check this out: This graph is from google analytics and shows game downloads per day for the last 5 months or so. You can see the little spike when the game was first released.. and then another one for v0.51 and for v0.52... and at the very end there in the final 4 days look at v0.53. Just look at it!!!! Went from a max of 65 downloads in a single day when v0.52 came out to 730 downloads. That was mostly from the rockpapershotgun post mentioned earlier. Any details on your submission to kotaku Epic Lul? Did you send them an email? Thanks heaps btw! I don't dare imagine the traffic if they put a link on their main page.. the servers will explooode.
Downloaded it, will try it later. Looks kick ass.
Fantastic game but can you at least change your avatar here on the forum?
This is definitely worth trying. I really hope you'll make some money with the final version.
This is great fun, And if I make a suggestion? How about elemental bullets that can affect the environment? like Electrical bullets would shock anyone on a metal surface or anyone in metal amour, Fire could set enemy's alight and set fire to wooden barricades and Armour, "Earth" Could be extremely heavy bullets that have a lot of impact force that could force the enemy back, water could be used to put out or cool down surfaces that were on fire. And possibly other types and uses
One thing that I find annoying is that you don't keep your skills when switching servers.
One thing that I find annoying is that you don't keep your skills when switching servers.
Then it would become another Modular Combat.
Good idea mage, spoke to you about it in-game but yeah I reckon it'd be implemented best through the use of skills. Kinda like the Energize skill? onox37, there WILL be a gamemode called WAR (version 0.7) where your stats are permanent. Until then, they restart with each round. It's actually a good thing. It keeps the game balanced and it allows you to experiment with different skills. Also it adds an element of strategy to the game as you can adapt your skill build to the map and server that you're playing in (get Area of Effect spells on crowded tiny maps, for example).
