Because people with crossfire'd 5870s and 480s in sli have trouble running those settings at playable framerates.
As I have said before, I am a wizard and my computer was built by me. Put it together in '07 as a budget replacement build for $600 and upgraded my 9600GT to a GTX460 last year. Many people tell me that certain games that I play can't possibly run at 60fps but they do.
I used to get 50fps Crysis maxed with my old 9600GT. The only games I can't run without lag are GTA 4 and Oblivion.
Build me a computer.
I built my friend a computer for $1k a couple weeks ago. I tested it with Call of Pripyat and Just Cause 2, both getting over 80 fps.
What were the specs?
Kingo, can I send you my 5850 so you can rub some of your magic wizard dust on it?
We needed to make it $1k or under.
i5-2400k, 8GB DDR3 1333MHz, GTX 560Ti, Some AsRock Pro motherboard, 650W PSU, 2TB Western Digital HDD.

Can't confirm if it will work. Last ATi card I owned was an ATi 9800XT 128mb. I never got it working. I then built my first own computer (previous computers were handed down by my dad) with a Nvidia 7300GT lol (shit card)
Yeah I want to get a better cooler (running on stock atm) and overclock it to 4.0Ghz.
In my experience, all stock Intel fans after the Pentium 4 era have kept a CPU overclocked by 20% under 50C. Aftermarket CPU coolers are useless, why not just use that money to buy a better CPU?
Most i7s run around 70C and above with stock coolers, and they're usually loud. A cheaper aftermarket cooler helps tremendously in noise and temps. I'm thinking about getting the i7 2600k though after having my pii 940 for awhile.
I only have one fan in my computer and if I overclock from 2.66GHz to 3.2GHz, the temperature maxes out at about 48C with Prime95. Don't get me wrong, I have a tiny case with no air flow. Bought it for $30 years ago and I had to move my HDD to another bay just so my GPU can fit.

Yeah I'm not too fussed. I really just want an upgrade and since the E8400 I already have is good for overclocking I thought why the hell not.
My budget is about $500 AUS at the moment. So I want to upgrade my PC the best I can with that budget.

Save up for a Sandy Bridge overhaul so you can move to a newer CPU socket size.

I would save up but $500 is all I'm going to be able to spare for a while.

Ride the storm. I've got the CPU below yours and I can do practically anything. I'm sure you can wait and save up
kingo, I so jelly. In thought when I got my current pc I'd be able to run everything maxed. Is the phenom ii 940 outdated? Honestly I can't upgrade for another 6 months or so and my dad, who thinks of my current computer as godly, (don't get me wrong, its great compared to the shit I used to have, but. It's just not running as I hoped.) and always gets pissed when I want to upgrade or buy a new part

I don't know much about AMD. The local IT community that I live in has brought me up to always use Intel processors.
Not that there is anything wrong with them, I've just never used one so I can't make a judgement about them.
If you want you could give your current (old?) parts to your dad if he wants them. He is probably only stating that because in his eyes, spending your money on computer parts seems like an unnecessary expense I would assume.
If you do want to buy new parts. I would always recommend mid-range parts, they for some reason are the best in terms of Price:Performance
He just doesn't like the idea of me spending my money on parts when i already have ones that he views as "acceptable".. It took him a bit of convincing that my 8600gt was a piece of shit
Also he's worked in alot of IT jobs, he's not computer illiterate or anything but hes stubborn when it comes to upgrading. Actually when spending money on anything he's stubborn.
Also, does anyone know the intel equivalent to a phenom II 940?

And I think this computer has always been a bit difficult; for reasons I don't know. Very slow loading times, stuttering issues in a few games... Other stuff like that
Slow loading times and stuttering may be attributed by your RAM and/or HDD. I've got a 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (nothing special) and Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 800MHz RAM. They seem to function fine. If you have overclocked your CPU, make sure that the FSB Ratio isn't pushing the RAM outside of its set specifications.
I can't overclock past 3.2GHz because: Lowest FSB ratio is 2x. With a max CPU multiplier of 8 and a FSB speed of 400MHz.
400MHz x 8 (CPU multiplier) = 3.2GHz (CPU speed)
400MHz x 2 (FSB Ratio) = 800MHz (RAM speed)
If you try to push your RAM further than it should be going you might get things such as errors or stuttering. Just some information for people to know.
I'm about to enter Lab X18.. wish me luck brothers.
Defrag your computer if you haven't done so also
