Hey guys I'm trying to use the FOV Switcher 1.7 mod for Call of Pripyat but it doesn't work. Doing a google search it turns out it could be because I'm using windows 7 and I need to disable "windows security regulations". Does anyone know how to do this?
turn off UAC
Now I suppose you want a ton of links to downloads, luckily, I host all of those mods for your delight.

UAC?
Am I the only one who thinks 'Strelok and the Sid', would be an amazing TV show name?

Yes, Rats are Rats. What a fucking surprise
:allears:
Ok I disabled that windows "security" shit. I'll let you guys know if this fixes the problem
Good news - it works! :) Thanks for the help guys.
Also, Snorks are only scary if they catch you off guard. Those Izloms though man.. you're walking around minding your own business and you just hear "SUMA SUMA SUMA SU SE AAWEQEQEDX" Holy shit..
And can you imagine being killed by an Izlom? He would have to beat you to death and will probably slowly pull your limbs off one by one.
I give up trying to make 12 gig people soup mod work. Every time I try to start up a new game, it crashes during loading. In the rare event that I do make it to the actual game, my hud and menus are all fucked up.
:siren:Warning large images soon fellow stalker!:siren:

1024x768 is not large.
I can fit four of those pictures side by side and still have room for steam chat :v:

Good night fellow stalkers and watch out for the lion.
1024x768 is not large.
I was just warning people with low monitor resolutions.
I've gotten the gasmask working and it's needed on all underground levels + yantar.
This is notwithstanding the fact that the player is a one-man army. Just out of curiosity, you guys play LURK, People Soup, or any other SHOC mod, if you were to give me an estimate of how many bandits, military, mercs, and Monolith you've killed in your current playthrough, what would the numbers be? I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers approached the hundreds for bandits and mercs, and I can easily see the combined total being 500 or more. And that's just all one man.
I agree completely. Incidentally that was one of the things I really liked about Call of Pripyat -- the fact that you mainly fight mutants and shootouts against huge groups of human enemies are rare in comparison and are often avoidable through negotiation or stealth, while the unavoidable ones are made challenging due to the surroundings (like being attacked from more than one direction at once), rather than sheer numbers of the enemy. Case in point: the merc's ambush at the Jupiter plant, in which you are attacked from two directions at once. That was only a small team of enemies but it made for a challenging and memorable fight, I thought.
I probably kill more zombies than stalkers on a typical playthrough of CoP, and at least that's more believable that you could take them on in large numbers and win, since their brains are fried. I liked these changes even though I know some people thought COP was boring due to lack of enemies. It was too easy, but there are other reasons for that, mainly overabundance of supplies.
If I ever do decide to try and mod SHOC again, that's something I want to fix, definitely. I want the game to be hard all the way through. Maybe not as hard as People Soup (and preferably without the long-ass load times with anything less than 8 gigs RAM), but still a lot harder than vanilla or mods like Oblivion Lost.
Only thing is, I don't know how I would do that. If I were to do it, I'd need someone to give me ideas to play with.
Steps can be taken to make the game harder but the 'one man army' state of things is fundamental, it's inextricably tied to this story and this setting and very difficult to change. Part of the problem is the severe lack of pacing in the endgame (Red Forest, Pripyat, Chernobyl NPP). That entire segment of the game is basically one long battle, full of hundreds of enemies most of whom are unavoidable, especially once you enter the NPP.
Even if you discount the endgame, there's a lot of combat in the earlier parts. The relentless, monotonous bandit attacks in Cordon, Garbage, ARI and Wild Territory for instance. Not only do these attacks happen with too much frequency and without any logical reason, due to the linearity of the levels it's often difficult to avoid these fights. Meanwhile, once you get some decent equipment and learn the patterns in the AI's behaviour it's not even very challenging fighting these constant attacks off, it's just tiring. Defending the Garbage hangar, for instance, is just a matter of camping the back gate and mowing them down as they come in. It'd be a different matter if they circled around and used all of the other entrances.
The huge numbers of enemies you kill on a typical playthrough also effects game balance in a lot of ways. In my mod setup for instance, I changed the supply drop rates so that the average enemy only has a weapon and a small amount of ammunition. Not realistic, since we all know how much gear we have to carry to survive in the Zone, but it's necessary because if every enemy the player kills has even half of a normal loadout, they'd end up never having to buy or seek out any supplies.
STALKER is too far in between realistic and not realistic. Blending the two together is a tragedy.
So I went with People Soup + DMX dkz.
Just how many guns can I expect? Arsenal Mod had me drowning in AK varients, which wasn't a bad thing, seeing as how it was odd having thousands of bandits and paramilitary forces all using the exact same model, make and color of AK.

I don't think so. Rather, blending realistic limitations with unrealistic expectations is the problem.
So brothers.. Should I go for CoP Redux or SGM? Last time I tried SGM it working good and I got bored of redux in its early stages
But I'm willing to give them a new start! SO CHOOSE FOR ME :colbert:

SGM. If it's the mod I remember it being, it was a lot of fun. Redux felt very bare-bones and 'eh'.
As I said, I may have the mods all wrong, but the last I played what I thought was redux, the new weapons didn't even have proper animations.
Ok then, and whats the difference between SGM plain and Blackbyte?
[editline]27th April 2011[/editline]
other than blackbyte being ... uhm.. way bigger
To me in Blackbyte NPCs take 5000% more bullets before they die, but I haven't played normal SGM in a while so it might be the same in normal SGM.
But I honestly prefer normal SGM, only good thing in Blackbyte is atmosfear.
I'm doing my first playthrough of Shadow of Chernobyl and I came to the part with ~4 bandits right after the military
bullshit at that bridge on the way to Agroprom. Now, I'm not the best shot, in that I had fired ~100 bullets and only
had 2 kills. So, I decided to "fuck that shit" and go back to the faggots at the railroad to kill them and get their rifles.
I now realize that instead of fighting ~4 bandits I killed 5 soldiers. I'm going to love this game.
