I read it as Spyro at first (half due to your avatar) and I remembered the sprinting where he'd put his head down and run forward really fast. Stalker kind of feels like that now that I think about it.

Does anyone know why this is so pixelated? I haven't installed any mods besides a sound one, and one that edits ballistics...AA is all the way up.

AA is only on easy mode, because on the higher difficulties you can actually cut yourself on the jaggies.

I don't get why games with third person/can see yourself somehow with full body animations don't have full body awareness. (STALKER, Oblivion/FO3, L4D2, Portal 2, even things Deus Ex)

Because it needs extra work on modeling and animating? You can have the regular 3rd person models and animations but it's going to look questionable from up close.

Oblivion (and every other Gamebyro engine game) does it retarded.

That is what First person is on Gamebyro games. And with some tweaking, it is possible to get third person animations in first person. (Didn't see full body yet though), which fyi looks amazing and has headbob and swimming animations

Best FBA for a game would be third person animations with optional headbobbing and interchangeable model and texture quality if the game can change the view from first to third. Using third person quality models, like Bethesda games do, I think, can make things looks like ass from up close, but slapping high quality onto everything slows down the framerate and increases the requierment for processing power.
I highly doubt it would slow down anything. Going from a 256x256 to a 512x512 texture really wouldn't tax much. Besides, most of the time, you'd only see your body while looking down, which typically results in no real performance loss anyway. So it shouldn't be rendered (games render what's infront of you that you can see).

You can see your body in L4D1 and I personally thought it looked very good. Granted, it wasn't as extensive as F.E.A.R. (where you could actually see your character's hands climbing a ladder), but it was still a nice feature.
FBA really adds to the immersion. It was pretty awesome that crysis had it, though crysis really isn't
a game you can immerse yourself in, it still added to the experience nonetheless.

No, I mean, using the high quality, as in high poly and high quality texture models for all the other stuff that uses them could slow down the game a lot. It could also make prefetching a bigger nightmare.

Well of course, if everything used extremely high qualtity textures, than yeah.
But typically, what a game dev does, is make extremely detailed stuff, than tone it down. While preserving as much quality as possible. So really, it would probably be a simple case of putting a higher detail texture or normal map on and I don't think it would affect too much. I'm not too sure. I know as I said before, the Halo games did it great.

Using standard quality stuff on non-player related models sound good to me. Unless GSC managed to optimize their new engine well enough to not crash when there are too many high quality models in one level, then slapping HQ stuff is just as good.
