You have to do nearly the entire main questline
From there on garrik will let you travel back to yanov and pripyat

Just do the whole main story and choose free play at the end. That's basically what you want, right? the Pripyat missions don't take too long to finish anyway as far as I remember.

I just installed REDUX, but as I'm headed to the dredge station, I jumped into an anomaly and I died. When I quickloaded, It crashed. Now the game won't start up, even though it runs in the task bar. Anyone know what's wrong?

I have three other games I'm playing the story mode for right now. I wanted CoP to be my escape game, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Then its the download that's fucked, try deleting the mod, making a folder called gamedata on your desktop, extract to there, then put in, are there any errors while extracting?

I didn't notice any when I was extracting it the first time, but i'll try it anyways.

'game_relations.ltx' in gamedata/configs/creatures - that's for CoP at least, probably SoC too :)
so I throw a grenade at a bunch of zombies about 20 metres away. the explosion kills the zombies, but also propels the rifle one of them was carrying at about 200 kilometres per hour into my torso, killing me instantly
