S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread - We have death during loading - does Minecraft?

Monolith have always been hostile haven't they?
Monolith are only hostile to the unenlightened.
The soldiers of the Monolith used to sit around the centre of the Zone and do the Monolith's work.
Then Stalkers started pushing further into the zone, disrespecting the Monolith and wondering why the Monolith starts fighting back.
Thorny, will WotW feature new mutants and, since the game takes place quite early in the timeline what will the monolith units be to the player, hostile or neutral ?
We're not planning new mutants as of now :)
The Monolith are a tricky issue, as they were basically a weird neutral faction before they went beyond the Barrier and the C-Con took over their already fanatical minds... I'm as yet undecided, but for now I'd say the majority will be neutral, with pockets of insane hostiles.

Oh yay it's authorized, sweet :)
The only thing I don't like about Clear Sky is the extremely fucked trading system and the fact that every other save I make becomes fucked for no reason. The no pistol ironsights thing doesn't bug me too much, because I find that I rarely use them anyway.

Good to know Thorny can spot talent. Just don't write anything about cheese cake

IMO You should have them be neutral to the player, but still treat everyone with suspicion and hostility. You could also exploit their history as a questline of investigations regarding the faction.
Also, great news article, Paravin.

Hah, I still remember that. :v:

It'll be intriguing, don't worry :)
I'd have them just sitting at a few guard points ignoring stalkers for the most part. If you try to get closer into the Zone, that's when they get hostile.

Also imagine Wolf running into one of their ceremonies and seeing all the heads and the pile of trash. :v:
[editline]11th April 2011[/editline]
Besides, doesn't one of the stalkers in CS say that they've been acting very weird even before they crossed The Scorcher?
Maybe a shrine to the Monolith on an outpost to give instructions to them but I wouldn't have a big important place of ritual on the outskirts of Monolith territory.

Nah, I'm talking something like a shrine inside a building of the Bar area. Like the Arena's underground, that would be a good candidate for something like that.
Do they own that area? If not they'd have to have some serious operations going on there in order to justify making a big ass shrine in enemy territory.

In theory they were in The Bar before they moved to Pripyat and The CNPP. Army Warehouses, Garbage, Agroprom, Yantar and Dark Valley were already occupied, it would make sense that a faction of that size settled in Rostok/Bar.
Rostok was taken by the monolith before SoC, iirc.
[editline]11th April 2011[/editline]
:ninja:
Yeah that makes more sense. Is this just before after they get kicked out or while they're still there or a while after they're gone?
i'd like STALKER if it was a bit easier and loading didn't take too long
i like difficult, but not WHY AM I DYING SO MUCH NOW I HAVE TO RELOAD SERIOUSLY THIS IS DUMB.
Yeah that makes more sense. Is this just before after they get kicked out or while they're still there or a while after they're gone?
They moved the entire faction at once to Pripyat, I think. According to the few pictures of Beta Rostok in CS the place was torn up by Monolith while they were leaving.
Paravin, for the sake of just wanting to see the outcome, try to write the most gayest, disgusting and mind-disturbing beastiality-tentacle-assrape-dickfuck tale and put it into a PDA and make Thorny to hide it in the deepest and darkest corner of the whole Zone. For some reason I'm terribly intrigued to see that poor soul's reaction upon reading the PDA, unable to stop his eyes going forward sentence after sentence, and after reaching the end of the story, he realizes how much it devoured and corrupted his soul and his sexual fetishes.

Now only after posting this I just realized what I have done, God help us all
Oh oh oh, and a questline involving Beastiality Freedomer!
O monolith.

At least the Red Forest/areas around the Scorcher would probably have hostile Monolith patrols, I'm sure.
Getting Monolith just right in WotW will be pretty tricky, that's for sure. On the other hand you'd be raping the lore if you just had them all be hostile like in ShoC and a big part of the fascination of WotW for me is to experience events predating even the stuff of Clear Sky. But on the other hand gunfights against human opponents in S.T.A.L.K.E.R are really satisfying and especially so against the Monolith, who posses the most high-end gear.
They come off as really creepy in the first playthrough as you're just finding your footing, having trouble even with the low-tier factions like the bandits and military grunts and then you hear about a hardcore sect of crazy religious zealots guarding the center of the Zone and the first area you are most likely to meet them in happens to be what is thought to be one of the most irradiated areas of the entire Zone IRL (and ingame aswell).
Personally I'm okay with most being neutral with the occasional hostile group.
Btw, Thorny,if I may inquire:
Are you going to possibly incorporate any of the following to WotW or considering these :
1. A.I tweaks that allow NPC's to use attachments(grenade launchers,scopes), melee etc.
2. Better weapon sounds like in Redux
3. Variety mod for the Stalker skins(I mainly mean the vanilla faction, loners, zombies etc) that was present in Redux ?
4. Random weapon loadouts for some NPCs much akin to Redux ?
5. Incorporation of AtmosFear ?
If it's classified at this point, no problem.
Also, a random SDK question for anyone who is familiar with the CoP SDK : Is it possible to create an NPC that would track the player's position and try reaching him across levels? As in , an NPC spawns into the Cordon and then would travel to Rostok, where the player is and then come initiate a conversation/attack them ?
It makes me so proud that I have Thorny on my friends list. I'm always to my friends "Hey you know Redux? I'm friends on steam with the guy who made that fo shizzle"
It's my first day on the zone, but anywas, CELEBRATION COME ON
Real Russians celebrate with 50+ bottles of vodka. Argument invalid.

You can expect graphical features that were in Redux to be in WotW too, I think.

And that's why we have the bandit's vodka storage room in Dark Valley!
Because there's nothing better than seeing Marked One ballet dance his way through the entire level. :v:

I think Thorny said somewhere that the mod will be as "vanilla" as possible, regarding the aesthetic stuff.
1. Is implemented in Bak/Rulix's AI Mod, which should be simple to implent if no other AI tweaks are present, IMHO it should be implemented.
