I use magma spear as my bread and butter skill, since it applies the staff mastery I don't have to worry any elemental resists and I can snipe shit pretty easily with it.
I used Magma Spear the most until about level 45. After that it's been Prismatic Bolt. Stuff's been critting for 35,000 lately.
I hated Magma Spear. Never seemed to be able to hit anything. Prismatic Bolt and Blazing Pillar combo amazingly well.
I like prismatic bolt because it's more like a shotgun in close range, little more effective for clearing out groups IMO
I like prismatic bolt because I don't have to aim. :v:
I like prismatic bolt because I don't have to aim. :v:
aim precisely
just aim within 90 degrees of your target and at least 4 of them will hit
Nah magma spear works really well for me because my Chakawary is absolutely bug fuck crazy and runs at bosses with no regards to his own safety, and never runs away so I get to laugh maniacally as I blast projectile magma at shit and throw magma artillery everywhere.
So nothing like what they've got for health. No hundreds of mana, 7 regen out of an ember SPECK, etc.,.
Yeah, but compare how much mana you have to how much HP tanky characters have, I'm at level 60 with my engineer and 300HP is hardly anything, while 300 mana is loads.
Do the Fire, Frost, and Shock Brands proc for hitting an enemy with a spell/skill? Or only with weapons?

Yes
i am making a melee embermage is this a good idea at all
i am making a melee embermage is this a good idea at all
I was doing that on Veteran, it was working fine... until I got to the Clovenhoof dungeon. Then I got my shit kicked in.
Me and my dad were playing elite. I'm an outlander and he's a beserker, quiet fun.
holy shit the bosses take for ever to beat tho, and we both died a ton.
So now I've started spending most of my money on the guy that sells random, unidentified loot. I've gotten some uniques and some really nice gear off of that guy.
My game's gambler hates me.
I keep getting class specific uniques, actually that seems to be all I ever get from boss chests and drops in general.
My game hates me.
anyone else having a problem playing with more than 2 people on LAN or MP?
It just desyncs after a couple minutes and everyone disconnects.
Is anyone else running on hardcore elite?
What's with the game's balance?
I'm a level 29 Embermage playing with a friend who's a level 30/31 Berserker. I've got 137 mana (126 base), meaning I can cast my main spell, Prismatic bolt, a grand NINE times before I'm completely dry on mana. He has 126 mana (80-something base), and spells that cost roughly the same as mine (10-20 range per cast) that he barely uses. He has 14 focus. I have a hundred. Where the fuck is that balance? I'm a fucking MAGE. I'm built around casting and spamming my spells. But I can't because no matter how much focus I build, no matter how many mana items I use, I have no fucking mana. As a class that I would assume would be BUILT for mana. The highest single mana item I've seen has been +13 mana. The highest mana regen I've seen is... 1.7/sec? And yet I can get health and health regen out the fucking wazoo. It's piss easy to get 100+ health out of an item, and the lowest Ember for health regen gives 7.2.
I've built a shitload of health (2400, level 30 Outlander friend has 1800, Berserker from before has around 2600) because it's the ONLY thing I can find, and I still fucking melt in fights. I have no staying power, so I have to stay back, and it's put me at a level and a half disadvantage to my friends because of it. I'm useless in fights. I've got alright damage output for the first half of it when I can actually launch spells, and then I'm completely and totally useless for the rest of it because I'm out of mana and if I try using weapon, I barely tickle the enemy and melt if they sneeze at me.
If I could get Charge, it'd be alright. But as it stands I finally get full charge every fifth fight, and only at the very end of it. It seems like full Charge is kind of the Embermage's thing. But when you can't get it, and when you finally do, it's useless, it doesn't really help at all.
How about use mana potions, if you feel like those you have are to small craft bigger ones, always does the trick, the moment I would start to spam spells pop in potion and you should be able to use another one quickly.

60/70/80 mana over 8 seconds never gives me enough mana for continued spam. I can easily out spam the regen.
You can't use prismatic bolts as your primary attack at that level. Use something more mana efficient (like magma spear) or a wand as your left-click attack.
For survivability, that frost teleport skill is insanely useful.

I assume you're just standing still to fire off 9 PBs then going "Oh, I'm out of mana/dead". Just slowing down the PB spam - firing off a couple shots and then running/teleporting around - will help both problems.
I never seem to be able to land hits with magma spear. As for wands, I have next to no strength, so they barely even tickle enemies. Yeah I get 10 mana per hit, but it doesn't supplement my mana regen well enough to make casting viable.

I've tried both. At 5 mana/sec (base of 4% of 137), running and getting into a new position doesn't even give me enough for a single Bolt after I've moved.
I'm playing the embermage currently (level 83) and it really only seems to be the lower levels I struggled with mana. I focused on the fire tree, so I really only used one spell for a long time.
However, I wish I had at least twice as much mana. I mean having 6k health is cool and all but barely topping 250 mana? Just have mana grow a bit faster, so around my level I'll have 500 or so, that'd be perfect. I could fire off summons, and auras, then spam my offensive spells.
Death's bounty helps a lot with mana problems. You just have to get in the habit of casting it first before doing anything else.
How long does the buff/debuff/whatever last? The symbol on the ground doesn't seem to last very long. Also, what's the radius on the death effect?
I can't recall how much I have exactly but I've never had problems with mana as an outlander. I can spam my glaives (still pretty decent despite the nerf if you just load up on poison damage gear) lightning fast for quite a while before running out. Mana replenishes super fast for me, just a few seconds for the whole thing, because I have a lot of mana regen enchantments as well.
Some big patch happening for me now, about 611.5 mb downloading, I wonder if this is previous update or new one, no patch notes out yet.

Pretty sure that I had already downloaded the previous update, so I reckon it's a new one.

If I go back with the girl after I beat the game, am I still able to access the map...area?
so i've discovered the teleport ability is a fantastic thing to keep a melee embermage from being anally raped
