I've played through the beta with a couple of buddies, enjoyed it immensely. Then I went back to the first Torchlight and wow, what a difference. It never really clicked just how improved the experience is in T2 over the original.
It seems like there isn't a single thing they haven't improved. New classes which feel more distinct, randomized areas feel less same-y, equipment is more varied, functionally and aesthetically.
I was almost disappointed that they'd left the identifying mechanic in the game, but I think they've simplified it enough that I won't feel the need to install a mod disabling it, like I did with the first game. Also, the ability to reach a higher level and have it automatically identify is neat, I guess. Not that identify scrolls are especially hard to come by.
How do I apply for the beta? Do I just sign up for a Runic account and wait, or do I have to send a sugar coated email?

Ye just create an account, you'll receive an email with the downloader and a key.
It may takes some time.
Jesus christ the download speed for the beta is awful.

And I'm done with the beta.

That's great - though that's the end, anyway.

If you had told me that the dungeons weren't randomized, I would have believed you.

Actually now that I think about it, I think some of the dungeons aren't randomized. Like I think the slavers' den had the exact same layout both times I went through, and that little secret quest with the ghost pirates.
So it's like they only randomized the largest areas of the game.
Plunder Cove was different the second time I went through it

WAR-DRUID (It's actually really effective)
I can't make a character build for shit, I just mix stuff (it ends up bad)

yeah but I'm pretty sure the beta ends tomorrow at noonish Pacific time
I thought Engie will be my favorite Class.
Now that I played as every single one, he's my least favorite.

I've had this game since launch but never gotten around to beating it. Currently in the place after the ancient ruins area, where there are little stalagmite islands and hide huts all around. It's a fun distraction but not meaty enough to hold my attention. I want to beat it before Torchlight 2 comes out because the beta was awesome as hell and I feel like I'll be missing out story-wise if I don't hurry up with it. Any mods to help get me addicted to it? Like a loot multiplier or something?

I got bored of Torchlight at the same exact area- just felt like the same thing and my spell 1-shot everyone and pierced and ricocheted around effectively killing entire areas full of enemies with one blast, just became a routine of sell, upgrade, sell, upgrade and I had no challenge. Also that area was annoying to navigate.
I've been 'playing' on and off since release though, hour-long sessions then months of not even thinking about it. I'm also replaying Titan Quest right now and one thing that makes it MUCH more enjoyable for me is the defiler, I've made it so that I level up 4x as fast, get more points per level, and have 25x better chances of getting unique equipment drops. It's not balanced at all but it's fun, more of a shortcut to the late-game character you always get in Diablo-style games.
Only things that really bother me to the point that I want to stop playing are how repetitive the gameplay is and the pet system. I've got a Vanquisher with two insanely good pistols, tons of enchantments on each, and some so-so armor, all I ever have to do is hold shift and click on enemies. The game pretty much plays itself. I don't like how long it takes pets to return from town and they ought to have a bigger inventory (as should the player). But that's just my preferred style, not how I think the game should have been made. Any mods to alleviate some of these issues?
Played the beta and it's pretty awesome.
I like how most classes can be anything they want. I have only played Engineer so far, I like having minions and stuff but the 2 handed cannon seems to be terrible, apart from the ability that you can put a point into.
They should use the Steam Workshop for mods. Would be so much easier
Fuck yeah, I'm in the beta.
Unfortunately I skipped school today so I can't get on my desktop until tomorrow.
It seems weird to me that they are going to end the beta before the game is released. I mean, obviously they have to, but the impression I'm getting is that the beta will end, then we still have to wait a few weeks for the release of the actual game.
Why not let us keep playing the beta in the meantime?
I like this game

When you go to checkout on the steam store? I think they already said that was fake.
What's the purpose of dual wielding? I've only seen it hinder me more than it helps.

lets hope it will be sooner then

executes, more weapon DPS for abilities, and some items/classes have damage bonuses for duel wielding

It was awesome for my lower-level Vanquisher since I kept getting horrible two-handed rifles or bows but incredible one-handed weapons, plus there's a dual weilding skill. Eventually I found a two-handed high DPS rifle that fired like a machine gun and a crazy powerful long-distance crossbow though, so I guess it really comes down to playstyle, skills and luck.
