I just got to the start of the vehicle section, and I think it's taking ~3 charged plasma shots to get through their shields. But you don't get any pistol ammo (or any other precision weapon) for a bit...
Effective tactic is to single them out, stay close, and when they yell after having their shields broken, go up to them and assassinate them. Instant kill, and you get your shields recharged.

This. This so FUCKING HARD! I think I never raged this hard at Halo, hell, probably any game. I was playing co-op with a friend, was stuck there for about 1.5 hours, then ragequit since it was fucking impossible. It's probably easier in SP, since theres 1 instead of FUCKING 3

Ugh, i found Long Night of Solace a complete bitch on Legendary.
I got trapped in the tunnel between the bridge, and that small room with 2 white elites in it, with a shotgun with 5 shots, and a needler with 34 needles.
Took me forever.

I just finished it solo, and for me there were two. You just have to kill the one with the concussion rifle as fast as possible, then make sure the one with the sword goes after Jorge; he'll sit there and slice him up to no end (since Jorge is invulnerable) and as long as you keep your distance from that point on, you can just wear him down and headshot him once his shields break.

I've always wanted to try LASO runs, but iron, black eye and blind really put me off.

Me and a friend did a 2P coop for the LASO weekly challenge.
Up until the skirmish with the Zealots at the end it wasn't that hard, we died about 30 times on the zealots until we had an epic moment that went like this:
Sword zealot notices me trying to pop it's shields and charges at me, both of us run of the stairs to the closed door and it gets distracted by Jorge so my friend assassinates it.
Then we sprint jumped over to the server things, I distracted one of the others while he assassinates that one, then the last one pops out of a doorway so I run through the room, out the other side so I end up right behind it and assassinate that bastard. After that I quickly reset the junction and we both had a bit of a 'phew' moment after that.

I just did the weekly in 4 player co-op and it still took us 1hour and 53minutes.
And I've hit brigadier and brought the mark VI helmet and sniper shoulder pads, I'm really happy with my Spartan.
