Hey don't make Gabe strain himself.
I just wish they would at least tell us that they're working on Episode Three. :colbert:
*gabe comes out, opens a small folder with a lambda on the cover and a TOP SECRET stamp*
"...At this time, we're working on increasing detail, polycount, and performance on Alyx Vance's breasts. Thank you for your time."
They are going to say "We released Episode 3 five minutes ago".
My bet
1. the big update for TF2
2. trailer for EP 3
3. portal 2 demo
Valve will be releasing a new line of action figures this holiday season
L4D3
Episode 3 Coop Side Story
That would be interesting, having a co-op function in Episode 3. If it were real, it'd very likely have Alyx as 2nd player, with her zapping tool, machine pistol and hand-to-hand combat. Playing as Alyx would be an interesting feature, though it would need a Valve-made Gordon model. And perhaps in terms of player-to-player communication, Gordon could use the sign language system that Gabe talked about several months back, so he could communicate with Alyx without talking.
Also, perhaps the main story and co-op story could be slightly different, a bit like Portal 2's main campaign and co-op campaign.
On a side note, do you think that Portal 2 will possess any hints to Episode 3? Perhaps during the game, Chell would learn traces of what happened in the intervening centuries between her being placed in stasis and her being awakened, and Orange & Blue would find similar fragments of the past, maybe even things concerning the Borealis...
1. Alien Swarm 2
2. Left 4 Dead update for the melee fatigue
3. A trailer how Barney gives the beer he owed to Gordon
It's not gonna be EP3, they said it was gonna be a shock and a surprise, were all expecting ep3 and they know this so it won't be a surprise to us. It's not ep3, its something else
What if thats what they want us to think so that it'll be a surprise!
I mean who would think of releasing Episode 3 as a surprise to the people who didn't think it would be that good of a surprise simply because they're expecting it but they're not!
Wait what.
3. A trailer how Barney gives the beer he owed to Gordon
Sitting alone at a bar waiting for Gordon to arrive, until the bartender says it's closing time and he has to leave. Barney wanders out into the cold rainy street and waits for a few minutes under a street lamp, then gets shot by a hunter because he hasn't seen one before because he's been too busy waiting at the bar.
Nearly everything I've read here doesn't sound surprising at all, even less like BIG surprises. Valve say they will shock people and I believe they will go in some very new directions. Trailers? Demos? Already announced content updates? None of that sounds like anything of the magnitude I'd expect from Valve.
Well, the thing is, we can't really even guess at this. Well, we can, but it's doubtful anything we think of will be correct, because that's what they want.
It'll be damn interesting if they released some info on the DotA game!
I think something that would qualify as a shocking surprise for some would be AI Directors linked to biometric measurements. They'd talked about how they have lots of equipment at home for gaze tracking, pulse measurement, sweating, etc. So if you feel too comfortable, the game would notice that and drop a frightening surprise for you for example.
The big step is to somehow make all that conveniently available to the customer by using a method that won't take 3h to wire up somebody.
The shocking part could be both how Valve managed to put all this in a convenient shape/the pure innovation behind the gaming experience this could offer and people complaining about privacy (although I would find automatic tweets like "Peter just crapped his pants in #Ravenholm" funny).
Don't know how much of a surprise that would be however, seeing as they're talking about this stuff in great excitement when they can.

I would probably get Twitter just for this.
I'll go with Garry's claim and say that they bought that My World social network MMO.
It would be hilarious and I would totally play it, since the community for it would be so awesome.
Valve buys their own island and starts their own country.
Valve buys their own island and starts their own country.
The Country would be named 'Condensation'
Valve -> Steam -> Condensation. *Logic*

I would shit my pants.
