Portal 2 is going to be released in February. They can announce Episode 3 after that time, because it would still be 12 months from now. Well, within 12 months from now.

Why wouldn't they do that? They have different teams for different games; for all we know they could be being developed together in parallel.
Although I do feel that anything with EP3 would be after Portal's release. It makes sense since Portal isn't entirely cannon to the Half-Life storyline.
I hope one of the announcements is a Valve made movie. That would be pretty sweet (of course it won't be).

The surprise was never canceled, the press conference was canceled but the surprise was still continued and was portal 2 for ps3.
Valve also said that the surprise wasn't ep3.

This is what I meant, yeah. :v: I also keep forgetting that it's coming close to the end of the year. In which case, "three big surprises within twelve months" is INCREDIBLY vague and I wish Valve wasn't such a hot tease.
Maybe one surprise is that they lied about there being a surprise and the other surprises are that there was only one surprise. Then again that's still a surprise.
