no, updates don't work like that, if there is a small or large update, you need to re-download the minecraft.jar, which will take an equal amount of time, when there is an update you will know about it. If it just flashes done loading and then then the title, thats not an update.

The game updates automatically, but it redownloads minecraft.jar as a whole, so there is no such thing as a "small update" because it downloads the whole game every time.
By the way, the bar before the Mojang screen does not say "done downloading", it says "done loading", two completely different things.

i know what i fucking saw, it was downloading the other files, BUT NOT MINECRAFT.JAR
so yes, it did update, but its such a small update nothing in the minecraft.jar had to be changed.
