I fucking jumped against my wall and nearly screamed staring to the otherside of my room thinking i was about to be killed. Closest i have been to shitting my pants since i was like 4.

I am now almost positive this is what happens, because the guy only actually spawns when mobs are near him. In old versions of infdev, your body did not disappear when it died because "you" didn't count as a mob, so your red discarded corpse still stayed there on the ground, and you could go find it and even push it around after you respawn. Now, that's been fixed, and the player character counts as a "mob", like pigs or sheep or chickens or creepers or skeletons, etc.

It is a broken mob spawn that uses the default skin and only appears in singleplayer. That's it. There is no ghost, Notch does not have a dead brother, and the copypasta is completely inaccurate.
Fun fact. When you die in singleplayer you release a puff of smoke just like every other mob. Just found that out, building a large wall near my spawn. :/
