Human Revolution is a prequel, so previous knownledge of the series isn't needed.

I started with Human Revolution too and I guess you don't need previous knowledge as it has its own story. Also, is freaking hard for me, couldn't finish the police station part without killing anybody, I think I killed every single person in there.
