I find this game pretty cool, this game is not about the graphics. Games can be fun without extremely modern graphics. Plus it's running on Java. As you probably know, you can't make super awesome graphics on Java.
Instead of lowering yourself to John-fu by replying with 'no its great shut up', you could atleast make an (valid) argument. And if you think he's just trolling, then you are not supposed to reply to him in the first place.

It uses openGL to display the tilesets. It's not oldschool, and nor was it made for DOS.

Minecraft is 3D, they have the CAPABILITY, Dwarf Fortress does not.

That is not very possible with Java unless you have got a whole company behind you, like Runescape. I mean look at Runescape, even though many many people work there, the game still doesn't look that good.

Just because they could, doesn't mean they should. Yes they have the capability, but the designer chose gameplay over graphics, what a shocker eh.

Both minecraft and dwarf fortress use openGl. They are not limited by anything except the programmer's game direction.

There are many time in minecraft where my breath is taken by how awesome and epic some places look.
It's just that you haven't played it enough to find a place nice enough .
