Well I thought it was a bit misleading that we went back into playing after the debrief. Also yeh, we do seem to spend 15% of the game in briefs and debriefs but that's just the way it is D: I'll leave out the annotations next time I think.
I think i'm going to try to play with you all again this weekend.
Hm, if I'm free this weekend then maybe I'll play again. Not played with you all since last August.
I don't like the smell of the new thread. [thumb]http://www.armin-gerhardts.de/wp-content/wunderbaum-big.jpg[/thumb]
you fuCKING IDIOT you took the whole freshener out of the bag you're meant to pull it out of its bag slowly that's why the thread smells awful
Well, new thread! I'll be moving into the student room I just got this Saturday, but hopefully this weekend we should have a platform for putting all info about the group in a single place, IE just a link to the website from this thread and from the steam group page instead of keeping both places up to date, as well as having it easier to organize the information and make it look decent. Can't wait to not be able to afford rent and eat toilet paper! I'll probably get the regular edition because I can't afford anything else :v:
If anybody wants to stalk profan I got his new address up for sale for about $50.
SIX Updater and ArmA II launcher both do this really easily. Or just save a text file with a few launch lines that you use and copy/pasta them into Steam when you want to go.
Yeah but then there are some servers that have some mods enabled.

I wish I could make my ArmA look like that without the huge FPS drop. I barely manage with high settings.
Yeah but then there are some servers that have some mods enabled.
There's no easy way of doing it. Just gotta laboriously edit the startline all the time. ArmA II Launcher does help with that though.
The pictures are beautiful though. I wish I could make my ArmA look like that without the huge FPS drop. Arma 3 Alpha better have some jets, I NEED TO FLY!
Arma 3 Alpha better have some jets, I NEED TO FLY!
I want to see what kind of transport heli we can expect to use....
I just want to see what the tank/vehicle mechanics are. Please no more HP systems.
I'm not all that excited about the new ArmA 3 units. I mean, I thought the point of ArmA was to be a military simulator. Why are they simulating units, vehicles and weapon systems that don't exist? I know some of those vehicles exist. But buy and large they're all experimental. How do you create simulation of vehicles that haven't even been very well tested in real life?

It's not like they're using railguns in Arma 3. The guns still function exactly like the ones we have today. The equipment also functions extremely similarly to what we have today.
It's not like they're using railguns in Arma 3.
Umm... this is awkward.
hopefully there'll still be normal vehicles so that every armed vehicle doesn't have TIR and some weapons with ironsights

But it seems to me like they're taking the Tom Clancy route and going for a 'cool' factor over realism. Like I remember when "FUTURE WARFIGHTER" came out or whatever and it had all these things we were supposed to have by 2012 which included XM8 rifles being standard issue, automated drone vehicles etc. etc. It just seems cliche, like they're stuck in that 50's era view of the wild future that usually ends up being a couple dozen years behind the curve of what they imagined. I mean, US Soldiers in ArmA 3 are using FN2000's. There is no indication at all that we're ever going to adopt those rifles. Ever. I think only one Army in the world even fields them anyway.
Code, those are special forces not regular infantry.
Kinda with Monkey on this. I looked at some of the screenshots and they all seem to have Gucci scopes and attachments everywhere. It all looked a whole lot more PMC than it should have. I do hope they go back to basics and don't focus too much on new content design, but I can see how they'd think that we'd see them as being a cop-out if they went back to AK-47s and M16s. Doesn't mean they should turn the whole thing into BF2142 though. I also hate how the only BAF characters they have are l33t sp3c0ps operators. There seems to be far too much of an emphasis on playing as the elite western forces, and not enough large scale military tactics - at least that's what the screenshots are showing right now, and I can understand why they'd want to make it appealing that way during the alpha when not a vast number of people are going to be playing together. Again, I just hope they've not forgotten what ArmA is for.

Also the main character you plays is part of the 7th Infantry Division of the US Army. Wich is regular. And AK's and M4's most likely are not used at all anymore around 2030. I think everything is just fine how it is. [editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
I think there are railguns. It seems like they kinda replaced it with the ACR mix. And btw, are they not allowed to have some freedom in what they create? They set it in 2032 for exactly that reason.
I don't like the concept off railguns on tanks. Like the tank can go immobile and turbo rev the engine to replenish ammo at a 'quicker' rate.

I just feel like this sort of thing feels more at home in a game like Planetside.
Yeah its going to be a new interesting feel. But I'm looking forward to the change. We'll see.
I'm fine with the devs taking some liberties. Giving the US Army SCARs in OA, for example. That made sense. It's something that might have possibly actually happened, and it breaks up the monotony of the M4 series. Railguns on tanks is just plain stupid. The 'technology' behind them is going literally nowhere, and there's jack-all that would make a railgun superior to a conventional propellant based main gun. I really hope they've gone back on that, because it's clearly something they did just for the aesthetic and there's really no way they can justify it being there. Railguns will never see regular military deployment. I'm glad they haven't gone completely overboard with the setting, but they're making some questionable choices. Some of the promotion material really makes it seem like they're going to over-emphasize small unit special forces shit in the campaign like every other game in the world anymore. I want to be an infantryman, a small cog in a large machine, not SSG. HSLD Special Snowflake #2342. Maybe i'm just sperging the fuck out. [editline]28th February 2013[/editline] I have complete confidence the game will be fun regardless.

No army can afford to kit out every one of their soldiers like that so it's simply unrealistic or, as I suspect, they're meant to be special operations. Makes more sense to a lot of players as it's easier to design a game around a few different characters rather than place you inside a platoon of 100+ men all fighting at once. ArmA II was never designed to be played as a small group of people, and I just feel that they may have scaled it down a bit into more set-piece type stuff. Anyhoo, should be a great game.
I really don't see why are you taking this so seriously ? People will make mods for regular units and they will make regular guns. All this is, is just a fresh idea handed so you don't feel like playing Arma 2 with more lights and less lag.Someones probably gonna port the Arma 2 models over anyway, so don't expect much waiting.
has it been officially confirmed those are railguns?
I don't think so actually. But its not congruent with the rest of the tank to be some psuedo-stealth design like this: and the calibre seems really small around the railgun/gauss gun/coilgun supposed size. So its housing more than just the 'barrel'.

I mean shit, except for some gadgets on their helmets a lot of U.S. regular units already have shit like this.

There's like the special forces of several european countries, one or two (or three?) american special forces groups and then the generic us army. edit: Also I don't understand why people hate how bohemia went for something fresh, all of the gear and vehicles are still going to be authentic (even though some of the stuff is not yet off the drawing board). People tend to only make mods based on generic todays us army all the time so you'll get what you want.
Maybe i'm just sperging the fuck out.
Yes, I agree.
