I doubt many of the people playing even know what those maps are, otherwise I would gladly play on those ones.
Besides the fact that I like Vertigo, because a skilled team can easily win it.
Oh, sorry, I didn't realize most of you were new to counterstrike. Carry on, when's the next match? I'd love to watch.

I don't think that anyone's necessarily NEW to Counter-Strike so much as people (including me) are new to the competitive scene. If this could be really called a competitive circuit of any sort.
Monitor the thread for match times, they're usually livestreamed and you can find recordings in the thread.

We went with default-only because one team may get an advantage by simply knowing the map better and voting for it.

You do realize all the maps I've named were the most popular competitive maps in the past counterstrike games. Anyone who's ever played any of the previous games should be familiar. Honestly the lack of maps you're allowing yourselves to play is the main reason I sat this tournament out, that and what I expected to be scheduling headaches. Hopefully valve will endorse these non-included maps one day so more people will start playing more than just 2 or 3 maps on this game.

A skilled team can win on aim_map too? Your argument isn't valid in my opinion.
No, seriously. Can we PLEASE play vertigo
I'd be up for it, provided I get a couple more practice sessions in with you guys so I can get better map sense.

I hope so too, but really, we're trying to keep a level playing field and that isn't going to be fair.

I think most of us here plays match making, not community. Even when on community servers, doubt anyone plays on those maps. I doubt many of us has esea subscription. The skill level of most fp'ers aren't that high enough to actually play in esea with actual fun.
Most here are new to comp scene in the counter-strike series.

Why do you think it's a bad map? It's just as good as any other one. People don't like it mainly because it's CT sided, even though T side is pretty easy when you play it right. Same goes for a lot of other maps. Plus I like the aesthetics.

I'm going to write a proper answer to this question, just give me some time.

well to be honest the ability for a CT to curl drop down into T spawn is sort of broken
Why not make a list of maps - give them numbers and roll for it?
Vertigo is a really hard map for T's at it's very difficult to rotate and the entry points are either a chokepoint which CTs can get to first, or an overhang, which CTs also can get to first
Who said anything about casual?
You did considering the only way to play on those maps would be to go into casual?
You did considering the only way to play on those maps would be to go into casual?
Oh yeah? Made a little video, just for you.

there's community competitive y'know
Well fuck, i never knew that there was a button for that. I figured it was valve maps only.
That's what I've been trying to explain, they introduced the workshop so we could have more maps to play instead of blowing up the steam forums asking for more from the developers.
I know someones remake of De_cbble from the mapping section of facepunch got featured in one of the valve newsletters. I'm hoping it, along with a few others get 'endorsed' by the devs so people will be less apprehensive to play them.

add them to competitive matchmaking, any map in the "pro" map circuit should be added to competitive MM (maybe some could do with some more decoration if valve wants to keep them to that standard)
So when's the next game yo
Oh boy jumping into the argument

The reason I picked stock maps is simple: simplicity of running the servers, and primarily ease-of-access for people jumping in. This is an open tournament, and increasing the learning curve just discourages people who aren't experienced with CS who end up just ducking out because they can't be bothered - hopefully, this tournament will encourage a few people to get into playing CS more often, which is a great goal. I understand that this inevitably pisses off the more "elitists" like you, but I'd rather help some less-proficient players get into CS than add maps and have nobody except people who have been playing since 1.5 know what the fuck they're doing
Plus knowing Facepunch we'll inevitably end up with someone voting in whoaaaaaa
I'm tired of you guys taking my posts as me trying to pick a fight, I'm just trying to explain that these other maps are nothing to fear. The "inevitably pisses off the more "elitists" like you" comment was also unnecessary. I feel I've been trying to explain my side without being rude at all.
Also, you don't have to have played as far back as 1.5/1.6 to know these maps. There has been a version of them in every release of the game including source. Some of which were in fact default maps then.
I'll drop it, it's not that important, I just thought I could help out with the issue of everyone saying they were tired of nuke and wanting to play vertigo which, as I see it has always been looked at as a joke for competitive.
Edit: blahhh was always one of my favorites of nippers from back in the day. It was also never played in pro matches so it doesn't necessarily qualify.
opinions sure are great!
Where do I see the times though? I just randomly peeked at this thread - but it was a bit late though.
they're dynamic, I try to post them as I schedule them, but sometimes I forget.
possible match with team fluid this thursday
I'd rather not play vertigo, but I'd really enjoy NOT playing nuke again...
Train, Mill, Mirage, Cache, D2, Inferno. I'd play any.
possible match with team fluid this thursday
I'm going to laugh if Fluid turn out to be utter shit considering how highly they rated themselves on the form
highly they rated themselves on the form
let's be honest here who didn't
I'm sure if Team Fluid is an actual team, not some group of people that just pug maps (like me :P), they will be decent. People over-think competitive play. A little teamwork and strategy goes a long way, regardless how good your shot is.

I was put up in competitive matchmaking against people who killed me in less than a 0.01 second I swear
