I spy a Mini Cooper S! Makes this a must have for me.
The third and final game of the series is promised to move back towards the original DiRT's focus on traditional professional rally racing,
Oh god, YES! Finally! I fucking hate DiRT 2 for all these...
, while still retaining some of DiRT 2's angle on the American extreme-sports side of the sport with the X-Games featuring for a second time and Ken Block's 'Gymkhana' free-style drifting also coming to the stage.
noooOOOOOOO! [editline]10:51PM[/editline]
I don't understand why people think DiRT is more realistic and DiRT 2 is just an "arcade racer". While DiRT 2 has a stupid obsession with crap American drivers and the X Games... the driving model in the game is far more realistic than the one in the original DiRT game. I'm not saying it's realistic at all (because it's not) but it's far better than the original model. Sure it doesn't have shakedowns and detailed car setup... but at the end of the day the driving itself is more realistic and that's what counts.
I don't know if drifting in a 180 degree turn in over 100 km/h is realistic. DiRT 1 was MORE realistic in the driving, except for the braking part, where you could stop the car from 150 km/h in a short distance. [editline]10:52PM[/editline] I'm not saying it's realistic though. None of the games are. But DiRT 1 is still the better and got more realistic handling than DiRT 2
More like what you see in Dirt 1 i'd have to say. which is exactly what i've been trying to point out... you can say i agree with you.
Yeah, pretty much. Despite how unfeasably well the cars stuck to the road in Dirt 1, it never seemed like the dirt surfaces stayed still underneath you. Whereas everything drives like tarmac in 2.
More like what you see in Dirt 1 i'd have to say. which is exactly what i've been trying to point out... you can say i agree with you.
Actually that part of DiRT 1 is KINDA realistic. if you let go of the gas in DiRT 1 in a turn, you'll start to slide out of the track. If you pull some more gas to it, it starts to pulls it way back, the way your wheels are faced. Which works the same way with 4WD cars in real life. But more sliding. Atleast this happens with the 4WD cars in DiRT 1. But of course they shouldn't stick that much to the road.
Meh, I can't look forward to this game too m-
[img_thumb]http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs303.snc4/40468_148726835143301_144403458908972_448285_7661952_n.jpg[/img_thumb] A classic Audi Quattro on a rally stage.
Holy shit Group B Group B Group B
Seriously, if you want a realistic rally game, go for "Richard Burns Rally"
Realistic's one thing. But Dirt 2's ficticious laws of physics annoyed me. I'm very interested in the physics behind cars/bikes and motorsports, so something like more downforce improving acceleration is counter-intuitive to reality. All I want is that they either get it right, or don't go there.
if you let go of the gas in DiRT 1 in a turn, you'll start to slide out of the track. If you pull some more gas to it, it starts to pulls it way back, the way your wheels are faced.
That's a symptom of an unbalanced car. When one end of the car starts sliding towards the outside of a corner than the other means it has less grip at that end. Ideally it wouldn't happen, but it's very difficult to eliminate, and so just having to cope with it is important. Theoretically it could occur on a car with almost perfect (49/51) weight distribution when pushed to it's limits in a corner. The more unbalanced the car, the more it will understeer/oversteer. This isn't relevant to Dirt 1/2, I just like rambling. I'll shut up now. :v:
Yes, you're right. I still stand by my point about DiRT 1 being more realistic though. DiRT 2 was ruined by being VERY unrealistic. (for example, all the goddamn drifting in the corners, and overall handling) Seriously, I started playing DiRT 1 again, because it's WAY better than DiRT 2, regarding the handling and realism. It's also fun, and got some good rally tracks, so I hope that they make DiRT 3 ALOT more like they made DiRT 1.

I think everyone here should try the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo on DiRT 1, and compare it to the one in DiRT 2. Then tell me which one they liked the most, handling-wise.
Meh, I can't look forward to this game too m- Holy shit Group B Group B Group B
My feelings exactly
Dirt is shit, it pretends to be realistic, but seriously, it's son.
We all know already that it's not a realistic game. Like I said before, if you want a realistic rally game, you should go for Richard Burns Rally. But don't get me wrong now, DiRT 1 is fun. (And I sure hope DiRT 3 is like it...)
I'm not stupid, I know GRID, and I own it. Yeah, well, I don't know about you but making a series with his name when the man died 3 years ago tomorrow comes across to me as a tad disrespectful.
I will have to say that the more than respectful salute to McRae in Dirt 2 made me accept and kinda support keeping the title for just this game. In fact, i would see a Colin Mcrae: Dirt 3 as a respectful salute and send off to this series before they leave him forgotten and move on to Ken Block... who seems to be, rightly so, the new bright talent. [editline]12:12AM[/editline] Just ordered McRae 05... I'm clinically insane...
I disagree. Have you seen how the cars just slide around like oil sometimes completely ignoring what direction your wheels are turned? i get drifting a corner, but when i slide sideways in every turn... i start to think they overdid the effect. I don't mind the x-games focused Dirt 2. what i do love about the first was that you actually stayed on track and turned exacytly as hard as you directed... Dirt 2 exagerates those turns.
Quite true, but the way the cars in DiRT drive with such little feel for the road makes me prefer DiRT 2. The original game is like driving hover cars. Ever noticed how much a car moves about and bumps around when you drive on a moderately unkempt road? Now imagine that on a dirt track. DiRT just doesn't have that feel in the slightest.
Maybe it's just me, but aside from bumping into my opponents from time to time, those races didn't feel like racing. I wanna be able to see my opponent, to nudge him into the barrier or against another opponent.
Go play Burnout.
Yeah, well, I don't know about you but making a series with his name when the man died 3 years ago tomorrow comes across to me as a tad disrespectful.
How could it possibly be disrespectful? It's a tribute to his name. Did you not see the video in DiRT 2?
Dirt is shit, it pretends to be realistic, but seriously, it's son.
You'd have to be an idiot to believe that, and never before have I seen the game marketed as realistic.
You'd have to be an idiot to believe that, and never before have I seen the game marketed as realistic.
You obviously don't look at adverts...
Just ordered McRae 05... I'm clinically insane...
I still have the very first Colin McRae Rally game boxed up and shit :v: This one.
These are all rendered screenshots, not in-game. Regardless, racing games have far less to worry about rendering compared to most other genres of video game.
That doesn't change the fact at all, that Codemaster's (racing) games have amazing graphics. [editline]04:01PM[/editline]
I still have the very first Colin McRae Rally game boxed up and shit :v: This one.
Holy Shit.
You obviously don't look at adverts...
No, no-where did any of the adverts say the game is realistic, nor did codemasters say that's what they were trying to pull off.
# New snow and ice rallies # Dynamic weather
Fuck yes I hope the dynamic weather affects the track conditions instead of just how the game looks. Also, temperature should affect handling on the snowy tracks. (Warm days make the snow sticky, so forth)
Just ordered McRae 05... I'm clinically insane...
Fuck, I just remembered the many hours racing splitscreen on Colin McRae 2.0 with my little brother.
Fuck yes I hope the dynamic weather affects the track conditions instead of just how the game looks. Also, temperature should affect handling on the snowy tracks. (Warm days make the snow sticky, so forth)
I'm not sure if it's going to be that detailed (yours ideas seem more likely to be seen in a Formula 1 game... though obviously not about snow). I do know though that there will be snow drifts and the like on the snow rallies that will deform and slow you down as you pass through them (a little like the big bodies of water in DiRT 2).
Hmm... I've just made a deal with myself. i will play through both dirt games Rally and Trailblazer events and restart unless i get a perfectly clean run. I just love when the Co-Driver comments on that. [editline]10:09AM[/editline]
No, no-where did any of the adverts say the game is realistic, nor did codemasters say that's what they were trying to pull off.
Ok, so it's not ultra realistic... but it's not transformers either. It does fine enough at recreating rally driving and i've checked up on reviews from hardcore simdriving enthusiasts and they claim that with a proper wheel and maybe even a full simulation rig, this game gets close enough.
I'm excited for splitscreen :D [editline]09:58AM[/editline] and gymkhana [editline]09:59AM[/editline] and hopefully splitscreen limitless gymkhana
Anyone know if there's a game that covers the Paris-Dakar race? i sooo want to race those desert tracks. [editline]12:15PM[/editline] http://ps2.ign.com/objects/016/016359.html got 2.5 I refuse to touch it.
I really need to get a wheel for my pc... So hard driving with the arrows on my keyboard, uncomfortable too.
Anyone know if there's a game that covers the Paris-Dakar race? i sooo want to race those desert tracks.
Tracks? In the Paris-Dakar rally? That's news to me. There aren't any decent games based on it, unfortunately. There's the one you found, and this. That's all I'm aware of.
I really need to get a wheel for my pc... So hard driving with the arrows on my keyboard, uncomfortable too.
I use an xbox controller and it works just fine.

I'm not touching that. call me a classy bitch, but going from Dirt to Runescape with wheels is just depressing.
I really need to get a wheel for my pc... So hard driving with the arrows on my keyboard, uncomfortable too.
You can get a cheap steeringwheel for like £30
You can get a cheap steeringwheel for like £30
Cost isn't so much the issue, just my own money, plus how I share this computer with family, mother probably would find it annoying. Suppose I'll get a ps3 and get it on ps3.
