Bobby Kotick thinks Bungie is the "last remaining high quality independent developer"
This.
He doesn't even know WTF an indie developer is. Indie devs, imho, only have one small team, and only have a few games. All of those other companies, such as Bungie, Valve, etc., are NOT indie, they have HUGE teams.
Independent:
: not dependent:
(1) : not subject to control by others : self-governing
(2) : not affiliated with a larger controlling unit <an independent bookstore> (3) : not requiring or relying on something else : not contingent <an independent conclusion>
(4) : not looking to others for one's opinions or for guidance in conduct
(5) : not bound by or committed to a political party.
(6) : not requiring or relying on others (as for care or livelihood) <independent of her parents> (7) : being enough to free one from the necessity of working for a living <a person of independent means> d : showing a desire for freedom <an independent manner>
Valve is independent as no publisher is forcing deadlines and exclusivity on them, as opposed to bungie whom have been microsoft's (and now Activision's) industrious little pet
Since when Bungie is a Indie developer WTF?
Kotick has to be punched in the face so bad .
all of you are idiots
game's change and just because halo:combat evolved and after wasn't exactly like how you wanted it to be does not mean halo is horrible
GROW UP
and yeah kotick is truly stupid and greedy
I couldnt take this serious, because of your avatar.
How is Bungie independent anyways?
Last time I checked, Halo was owned by Microsoft Studios. :frog:

they just kinda drifted apart... no bullshit. Halo still belongs to Micro... hence Reach being the last Bungie title.
When I hear "Independent developers" I think of a nerd sitting in a basement using a computer with Windows 98, programming 24/7.
I guess I`m slightly wrong.
ITT: People who don't know what independent developer means.
ITT: People who don't know what independent developer means.
Pretty much.
Can somebody explain to me and many people here, what the hell "Independent game developer" means?
Halo is a amazing game with a rich story. But yeah, i have seen better. But still one of the best games ever made.
When I think indie I think notch from minecraft >_>
ITT: People who don't know what independent developer means.
This. Although he's still being really ignorant, there are plenty of great independent developers out there.

My understanding of it in this context means anything that isn't tied to a corporation. I.E. Not EA, Ubi, Acti, Bethesda and so forth.
the usual meaning refers to basement dwellers endebting themselves by making buggy games and selling them for absolutely no money at all in the hopes of breaking through to the real market. Some of them do, like Icefrog, Notch (on his way i hear?). some games become a hit but the company never manages to follow up and just die out a la 3dRealms or more fitting SaintXI.
the real meaning covers both of these categories since they are independent from any mother company. Many of these manage to produce top quality games due to no deadlines. one exception is Obsidian Entertainment who just fail hard every time because they're always working by contract with corporations.
If you succeed at breaking trough and join the right Independent company, you're on the right path. If you're not paid well, you're guaranteed to at least get something good out of it. Developers hired by a company with multiple developers under their wing and set 9-5 work days with a deadline from concept to release on just about 10 months... you're wasting your life.
/incoherent rant.
Wow this Bobby Kotick faggot is the new Jack Thompson.
I hate kotick. I want to punch him square in the face.
We should make a kotick hate thread :v:

Not owned by a publisher. Independent from such. Bungie is currently owned by Bungie. What they have with Actishit is a partnership.
Same definition as you'd use for indie music, not associated with a label or record company. May still be published through that, but are not controlled by.
Bungie is a good company and all (even if you don't like Halo, it's hard to say Bungie is a bad place to work at), but the last remaining independent developer? The article mentioned quite a few and that's not even all of them.
It's getting to the point where I think Kotick is either mentally challenged or trolling the gaming community.
Mentally challanged troll.
Problem.
Game developers?
His face is actually annoying me now, troll indeed.

Its become Bobby Kotick week on CVG I think.
Halo, meanwhile, has you play as Mary Chief, all day, all the time
You havent played Halo Reach have you?
The whole "Halo is same over and over" arguement is invalid, that tends to be what you do with sequels, Metal gear solid has it changed much? Not really, Call of duty? Nope what about Half Life? oh wait not that either.
If you can list changes in sequels you will find the lists are pretty even sized.

And then there's Bay12 which will always live, but still stay in obscurity.
I don't understand the peoples saying Bungie just rehashed the same game over and over.
If you buy a game, and you like it, wouldn't you want another sequel to said game that is actually LIKE said game? Maybe bring a few new features to the table, but still the same deal?
I know I would. And this comes from someone who don't even like Halo.
Dear OP.
I feel the picture of Bobby you used was a poorly photoshopped one made simply to mock poor Bobby.
I recomend you replace it with my remastered version!

Bobby Kotick needs to be slapped.
In the face.
With an aluminum baseball bast.
This is the troll of the gaming world.
At least Bungie releases their shit on time.
Sometimes even earlier.
How the absolute fuck did Bobby Kotick get so high up in his 'profession'?
I'm surprised some angry geek/nerd hasn't assassinated this asswipe. I actually am.
