Also, you can get shackles off of zombies during bloodmoons. They're not useful for anything other than getting a little extra defense, though.

Just throw a block in front of every door.
As in

BD
XD
X= empty
B= block
D= door
And keep them closed. Zombies can open doors during bloodmoon, that's why you block them.

You don't. You have to find one underground/in a shadow orb, I believe.

I made a bunker to deal with those annoying eyes and zombies in the safety of my own home xD. Also useful when a blood moon rises (and good for farming for shackles and lenes).

Full shadow armour provides a defensive set bonus and full Meteorite armour gives mana regen bonus.

They're usually easy shots on the bottom platform for my musket. Plus my musket 1 shot them. Or if I don't get the kill on the first shot they usually fly far away so I can land another.

I'm sure this is a typical story that's probably been posted already, but holy hell, just had my first encounter with a boss.
I just made full copper armor and a gold broadsword and bow, and I venture into corrupted area. I'm curious, so I jump down a pit, went down quite far. Night falls and it says "You feel an evil presence watching you." So naturally I was like oh hell no, so I used my magic mirror and teleported home. Then the eye of cthulhu woke, and he's swinging and hitting me all over my bedroom and spamming mini-eyes at me, so naturally I had no choice but to fight. I run out of potions so halfway in the fight I have to go down to my storage to get more potions, so I do that and go back up. 7 minutes into the fight after arrow spamming and shuriken tossing at his eyes, I'm surprised when I hear it bellow and it turned into a mouth-eye thing. I was glad it stopped spamming eyes, and kept attacking and guzzling potions, when suddenly at 400 hp, he flies away into the sky because (I'm assuming) day is breaking. At first I was like oh damn it, but afterwords I was like hey, that was the coolest game experience I've had in a long time, and I was just glad he fucked off. I'm really surprised I managed to fight him as well as I did.
To make it more fitting, I had the symphony of the night soundtrack playing in the background, and right when he spawned one of the boss tracks (Death Ballad I think) from it started playing and I nostalgia'd so hard, was so awesome.

On the left is the merchants shack, on the right is the nurses. The basement was going to be my storage room but the damn guide moved in there (and I don't want him watching me while I sleep) so now im up in the attic room with all my special objects (namely bars of metal, money, odd objects and precious stones)
I wish that the background pieces tiled better between the stone and wood instead of leaving those annoying gaps!

it has to be next to a surface (i.e. the sky) background. yes, this means you need to knock out every tile between you and your underground destination. hope you've upgraded your hammer!

I got happy too early. As soon as I got back up to my house, it spawned. Needless to say, it totally destroyed me. Almost lost all the gold I had been saving for a mining helmet.

To answer your Obsidian question, yes, it has more uses, it's needed to make Hellstone Armour.

But apart from that, I'm finding it really enjoyable, well worth the money.
People don't understand why we use Hamachi... So servers can ban hackers and TNT trolls.
