Would be cool if there was a boss at the end, a kind of a big super-goblin.

Will npcs such as nurses and merchants only spawn if you have a house for them? And can there be more than 1 type of npc in a map, or is it one for each player?

As long as you have a room that's big enough, a light source, a table + chair, and meet the requirements they'll spawn.

Have had multiple nurses in multiplayer leak, but currently its limited to one, per room.
Edit: Just make humane, natural rooms, and they should instantly spawn when you meet the req + are out of sight
I'll take a screenshot of what they should look like.
So far me and my friend have gotten nearly a full set of Shadow armour each and we both have those Ball 'O Hurt, finding Shadow Orbs is so easy and the boss after killing 3 is so fucking funny, especially with the Ball 'O Hurt. We've located one meteorite and are proceeding to mine it(He made a Shadow pickaxe). This game is definitely the most fun I've had in years.

How far away from the broken shadow orb or spawn are the meteors?

Any houses looking like this should work. They all have a complete wooden back wall, table (regular or crafting table), a chair, and a torch or two.

cthulhu eye is easy, easier than the eater of worlds imo
skeletron is MUCH higher level and i'd stay away from it until you're full demonite/meteorite armor and weapons
There's no minecarts/mechanics/electricity like in Clonk is there?
