Make a huge brush with the nodraw texture that surrounds your entire map (and then some). Hollow it and make it into a func_brush. Name it "structure_seal". It has to do with the how Alien Swarm SDK looks at leaks, as normal AS levels have no roof.
Also, make sure you remove the -alldetail argument from vbsp in the expert compile options.
Not both. Either the first or second. Doing both is really bad.
Doing the first is kinda bad.
Doing the second is quite awesome.
Some more work. Can I get some good feedback? What else can I do to improve this?

Also, does anyone know why the water isnt showing up? It did at one point, not sure what I did to make it become all white
YAY! I made my first (extremely simple) Portal 2 map! I first opened Hammer editor yesterday, so I personally am quite impressed with myself.

Fun times!
Upload screens in a mo.
EDIT: Here ya go!

Also, I have made more (slightly more) complex maps for Portal 1 yesterday, but this was my first attempt at Portal 2. It is SO MUCH better looking than Portal 1, making it actually a much more satisfying experience.
What are the debris props called? Like the rebars and exposed tile frames and stuff
even though paintinmap is set to one, it still doesn't show up for me :(
How do I make it so that portal 2 runs my map after being compiled
Change the game executable from $SteamUserDir/alien swarm/swarm.exe to $SteamUserDir/portal 2/portal2.exe.
DERP I've being playing around with expert settings for a while and, not being an expert, I have managed to cock it up quite badly. How do I reset these settings? If not then I still have a way, it's just LONG, or could someone kindly talk me through what the default CMDs and PARAMs (or advised ones) are? Well don't I feel silly.
What are the debris props called? Like the rebars and exposed tile frames and stuff
I think I remember the exposed tile frames being in a section of the model browser called testchambers
Change the game executable from $SteamUserDir/alien swarm/swarm.exe to $SteamUserDir/portal 2/portal2.exe.
And what is the attribute I use to make it copy the map directly to my p2 map folder?
And what is the attribute I use to make it copy the map directly to my p2 map folder?
change the bottom one to the maps folder iirc, i don't own the game yet
And what is the attribute I use to make it copy the map directly to my p2 map folder?
Go the the build programs tab in Hammer and replace the last text box with $SteamUserDir\portal 2\portal2\maps.

why were you playing with them in the first place
Hmm also, I can't seem to get to the prefabs. They are in the correct folder, but they aren't under the prefabs menu on the bottom-right hand corner. Any ideas?

Can't find it D:

I was trying to get it to save it to the Portal 2 folder, and launch in Portal 2.
I love all of this. Keep up the great work guys.
Could someone please take a few screens of their versions of this box here showing how to get it to work well with Alien Swarm SDK and Portal 2: http://oi52.tinypic.com/2u9h1lx.jpg Mine is pissed and I dunno how to fix it, although really it's no disaster.
P.S. I apologise for the excessive amounts of posts I'm making here.
Any websites got tutorials on the new portal 2 stuff?

Thanks! Can this setup be used in any circumstances (I'm just thinking of the fact that it gives slow and fast setups)? Also, what is missing from those? Some of the parameters are cut off. :-/ Sorry to be a pain in the ass.
Anyone got a link to the latest fgd?
I thought there was a thread, but can't find it.

The compiling section in the Beginners section is really unreliable.
First, you map does not need light at all you can run the map without lights and it would still work.
Second, you don't have to put a big hollow box around the map if you remove the -alldetail setting from the Expert dialog box.
Third, you don't have to uncheck game if you are using the portal2 executable.

Damnit I wish I knew this earlier! I fiddled with this naively and now my compile settings are so pissed I can't compile my Portal 2 maps any more grr if I could rate this dumb I would. Someone do it for me!
Way too much sky is being revealed.
Okay so thats a good point. So I made the displacement walls taller and I made into two holes instead of a big one. I think this makes more sense

Kinda looks like it was built to have this cave roof, I need to work on that
Why is my map fullbright as fuck
I've got a light and a light_environment in there
Is there anything I'm missing when trying to run Co-op maps?
Me and my friend had the map, same version but changelevel (map) would make the person who wasn't the server op timeout.
The map worked fine.
