Anyone tips for how to make a cool fluorescent light? I tried this one: http://steamcommunity.com/id/killuah/screenshot/560907128088963018 But with the normal light entitie it looks kinda shitty.
use light_spot
In my map, there's a part where the player uses momentum to crash through a wall. Thing is, it's not entirely obvious to the player that you're supposed to smack in to it. What should I do to hint that you can hit it?
There are some cracked testing surface textures, not sure what they're called. It's less intuitive than a bullseye but if the rest of the room looks normal it should work, and it wouldn't feel like hand-holding.

Outside of test chambers you could use this prop light_cage001a.mdl I used two light spots ( one facing up, one facing down for better coverage ) Brightness: 115 145 175 600 ( can be changed from 400-800 depending on how large of an area you're covering. ) Constant: 10000 - not sure if this is overkill but meh, it helps Inner bright angle: 25 - adjust to however you want Outer fading angle: 75 - same for this one These are generally the settings I use to achieve a cool blue lighting in the large backdrop areas of my map. I also use a smaller light entity to help illuminate the prop and the immediate wall next to it. Brightness: 135 160 185 100 - This may seem like a lot but the further away you place it and the darker the color you use it helps out. Adjust the falloff distances however you want, some people don't even use this at all.
Where do I find those ceiling frame things? These
Search " frame " or " squarebeam "
Awesome! You can change the faith plate's target! I made a quick test map. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/897064/faith.bsp When you hit the button, the faith plate's target becomes the white wall.

Need an idea for a puzzle.
Need an idea for a puzzle.
Create a series of emancipation grids for co-op that involve a weighted cube. Both players have to work together going from Point A to Point B one at a time standing on a button that disables a given emancipation grid ( only while standing on it ) to allow the cube to be moved through. Carry on from there, use lasers that have to be blocked to disable the grids, etc. I'm planning on implementing something like this since emancipation grids were a bit sparse in co-op tests in the stock maps. [editline]1st May 2011[/editline] Infact I already have, a really short simple one. I plan on introducing it though, and then letting it get more complex. I'm kind of giving away my idea here but oh well, whatever helps get other people motivated.
Cmon guys, at least one person tell me if i should keep learning this subject http://www.mediafire.com/file/mk1waea43sucgbw/firstmap1.bsp give it a go, tell me what you think :)
I just uploaded a crap load of screenshots of your map on my steam profile (cwook). The captions have my comments.
How do I make fizzlers texture line up right?
Im not sure, but you can try "fit" option

[editline]1st May 2011[/editline] Just made it invisible.
Lookin' good! You should use " fit " on the fizzler texture though, it's better to be able to see it instead of walking through it with a cube and seeing it randomly disappear. " CUBEY NOOO- "
Using fit made it invisible.
Oh, weird. [editline]1st May 2011[/editline] Everyone seems to have problems with their fizzler textures, not sure what the deal is with it.

The only way I can get fizzlers working is by copying them from valves maps since they have certain values which require it to work, I think. If i make my own it just doesn't show up.
Okay, so, I got my compiler working again, but now this is happening...
