Hopefully this will keep portal 2 custom content going, I think the reason that left 4 dead 2 kind of dropped off in the number of players was because of the late sdk.
I may have missed this but how do you port the models from Portal 1 into Portal 2 so that they show up in Portal 2?
Shit, I hit private instead of public, I set it to unlisted while audioswap did it's thing, in compensation have an infinite stairs map I made. Anyone got a guide to using the new instances? :S
Real Hammer gods don't use instances, they make the things they want themselves by scratch :smug: [sp]Just kiddin' - although it's true in some cases[/sp] [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] I prefer making the shit entirely from scratch. Instances are too confusing for me.
How do I get world portals to work? or how do I make them?
How can i get it if i didn't buy the game :(. PS the portal authoring tools.
How can i get it if i didn't buy the game :(.
oh my freaking god. Please, leave via the warez door.
How can i get it if i didn't buy the game :(. PS the portal authoring tools.
It's pointless having it as it's specificly for portal 2...
YES but i have portal 2! [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Have you heard of pirates? :P (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - Starpluck))
YES but i have portal 2! [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Have you heard of pirates? :P
Oh, yeah please get the fuck off this website if you're not even decent enough to pay for a game and support the developers.

I don't really see the use when you can make it from scratch and when you prefer to do it that way, I guess that's just me thinking weirdly
World Portals *Might* help [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Yeah but.. I don't really see the use when you can make it from scratch and when you prefer to do it that way, I guess that's just me thinking weirdly
Say you have a cube dropper. Rather than making all the entities and logic to manage it, you use the cube dropper instance instead, so all that complexity is packaged into a re-usable chunk that does not clutter your map and it takes a ton less time to make. It's also what Valve used to make the in-game maps, so there's another motivation.
Whenever I try to use instances in the sdk it changes the vmf location from instances\labs\observation_room_128x128_notbroken_off.vmf to instances/labs/observation_room_128x128_notbroken_off.vmf which makes it not work. Any help?

Oh gawd Sony, hurry up and fix the PSN. I have some great ideas for Portal 2 maps, but can't do anything till the PSN is back up >.> Oh! Someone try this... make a trash compactor, with portal surfaces. Prop in the middle, have the Portals be aligned. Prop can be a physbox or something. The prop in between, then make the compactor close. I wanna see what happens, you never know, it may explode, like ripping the tag of a mattress.
im going to make maps with shock images to troll my partner

Say if the player enters the prop_portal from the south, set the prop_portal's direction so the yellow line in 2D view points straight down. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] sorry, imagine I said func_portal_linked_door or whatever they're called instead of prop_portal :v:
Aren't instances like better versions of prefabs, and allow for easy mass duplicating of objects?
Still can't figure out how doors work
Aren't instances like better versions of prefabs, and allow for easy mass duplicating of objects?
And if you alter the instance, it gets altered in every map you put it in, yeah. Valve went pretty much apeshit with instances for Portal 2. And I like that.
Is there anyway you could do a quick video, or picture tutorial, it's kinda annoying me :P.
I can't really explain it that well myself to be honest - but I'm sure I saw some quick tutorial around on facepunch by a guy who got them working, including a video example. Try searching for "world portal" or similar
And if you alter the instance, it gets altered in every map you put it in, yeah. Valve went pretty much apeshit with instances for Portal 2. I was just looking through the instances it came with and saw all those animated panels, and doors with frames, and lights that are all ready to be just put straight in. That's really useful for someone a bit more of a beginner like me and just wants to chuck stuff together without having to do all those lights and door frames manually.
