I haven't used them myself, but I think there's some button that auto-loads it into the map so you don't have to copy and paste

That's because if you load it as an instance, it groups everything from the instance vmf together. If you load the instance vmf up, everything is on its own and you can pick it apart or whatever.

Alright, sorry but there doesn't seem to be a tutorial on this. Am i right in placing a Func_Instance and changing the file name to the instance i want? I just did that and nothing appeared in my map :/

Alright I got it, so basically load your level and load the instance separately and it lets you edit it. Then save it under a different name. Seems to work so far, besides the crashing every little bit from random things I think I got it.

No need to man, there is a texture without the edges already
also there doesn't seem to be an instance included of those transition rooms of the coop (the mid-level spawn rooms)
If you're having an issue with instances not loading, either store your map in sdk_content/maps, or copy them to the same folder as your map file (Hammer assumes every map is in sdk_content/maps when writing the path to the instance, so vbsp and Hammer itself then can't find it if it's in a different folder)

Select the func_instance and set a "fixup name" (e.g. "gel_dropper"), then look for a field that looks like "$trigger_to_start" (or such), and set that value to "start". Then create a button and tell it to fire the "Trigger" output on the entity called "gel_dropper-start". That should work (if my instructions make any sense)
Edit: It will vary from each instance, it helps to look at the VMF file for it (one gel dropper uses a logic_relay, hence why you call the Trigger input for that one)

- I have extract the portal 2 materials/models to the alien swarm directory.
- I have run the .bat file in swarm/models
But now I cant see any Portal 2 objects, fx. weapon_portalgun. I only see the Alien Swarm stuff.
Someone mentioned that I needed the Portal2.fgd. If that is the case.. where do I find it? Acording to the windows search result it is not in my computer... I have dl some Portal2.fgd but it didn´t work. So please can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Tried it out, doesn't seem to do anything other than paint the walls purple. They must have either removed the code before release or never actually got it working :(

They had it working, but it disorientated play testers too much (I can sympathize, it was the most annoying paint in Tag)

I need help, I cant get func_instance to work. I mean, it works on the zoo map, but when I try it on my map, the instance does not spawn. Help

remade chamber 09 entirely from scratch, it's exact down to the placement of the observation rooms
the only problems i had were that i couldn't figure out how to get the entrance elevator working
