Lionhead is probably the biggest offender of making you pay $60 for a very bad game.
Really? I've only bought their games for a $40 max, and I've got most of their games at release.
Lionhead: The fact we still let Peter Molyneux promise features for our games is worse than the pre-owned market.
This is why I stopped researching about their games, and tried to ignore them untill they were close to release so that I wouldn't be dissapointed :v:
A lot of marketing has to do with the visual appeal. Big businesses do not focus on gameplay because gameplay is harder to market with. Most people prospecting a new game typically say, "that looks cool," or along those lines rather than anything about how it would play.
I have to disagree with this, nowdays people research more and more about the games before they get released to see if they're worth it or not. People go into watching trailers, gameplay vids, trying demos, pirating the game to see if it's good and try to learn all about the game. You don't pick up a retail copy and think "this looks cool, I'll buy it and hopefully I'll like it" (which you usually did) as much anymore.
Saying that when you buy a game the money goes not to devs but to store because they buy in bulk is bullshit.
If you don't buy from store, the store won't order a new batch from the publisher, thus devs get less money.
Here's a pretty good informative video on the pre-owned market and the industry's current solution:
