I too want to know a game like this, I liked world of warcraft but I didn't do any player interaction so felt it's unecessary to pay a monthly fee for servers. I tried a private server but it felt too lonely. So I need a WoW-ish RPG that's designed to be singleplayer.
Kotor is similiar to DA:O.

Demon's souls fits your description pretty well. Third person, Medieval fantasy, you can be an archer, no micromanaging a squad.

Although I played an archer it was really poor, anything but a melee character was gimped.

Fable, 3rd person bow/xbow/guns
The .Hack series is an MMORPG Simulation, in that it plays exactly like an MMO but isn't.
I am surprised no one named neverwinter nights.
Titan Quest, Sacred, and those types of Diablo style RPGs come to mind. Mainly because like an MMO, there isn't much of a story or character development and all the side quests are redundant fetch or kill this quests.
I was hoping for a third person game, I really should of mentioned it in my original post. I know that the Elder scrolls games do have third person but don't work that great.
Gothic 2. Leveling, Magic, 3 guilds to join (Militia, Mercenaries and the fire mages) and what I'd call the best game of 2002. Whatever. The best game OF ALL TIME.
Oblivion. Personally i'm not really into RPG/MMORPG, but i enjoyed Oblivion a lot. Sadly i can't find the disc to play it.
Numen: Contest of the Heroes. Plays exactly like an MMORPG but it's offline.
The witcher is a big single player mmorpg.
KotOR
It won't feel like an MMO if there arent people begging for money, microtransaction whores or a monthly payment system.
I've written down some suggestions (Kotor, Gothic series, neverwinter night, numen & sacred) but I'm quite enthralled in Dragon age at the minute, finally got back into it, got out of the fade and having fun with my archer. But I'll try some of the suggestions, thanks!
Hellgate London doesn't exist anymore.
you can still play solo i think but yeah multiplayer servers are down...
Phantasy Star for DS.
Borderlands is a really good example, boring repetitive and it's all "Kill x amount of this"

Google RPG you might find what you're looking for.
DragonAge? [editline]11:13PM[/editline]
Oblivion. Personally i'm not really into RPG/MMORPG, but i enjoyed Oblivion a lot. Bypassing the copy protection is illegal. :c:
