I could help you out. The farthest I got was right at the end once you actually get inside the base and such. After I died I have yet to reach it.
In my opinion the new forge setup is really crap, I just used to like simple spawns and stuff.
I'm guessing the same cheaty method for getting Carter's avatar helmet easily works with this daily challenge, right?

ONI protip: Keep the Target Locater with you even after you destroy the Wraiths with it. It constantly gives you more chances to use it, albeit slowly.

No - finish most of the level, quit, then resumé the game. As long as you don't die, it'll count as you 'finishing' the level without dying.
