I hate how much Black Ops had and Crysis 2 had, it gets annoying but understandable.
THIS
Am I the only one who noticed Barney say 'fuck' in HL2? When you jump down under the combine gate (HL2) after the fight with rebels to protect alyx so she could disable the generators, Barney says "If you see Dr.Breen, tell him I said 'Fuck you!'". It was somewhat distant, because you're already inside the ground when he says it but still.
Exactly.. Bad Company 2. Battlefield 2 didn't have f-bombs flying every second.. is it less of game because of that? I don't think so.
you said the battlefield series doesn't have excessive swearing. You would be hella wrong [editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
Am I the only one who noticed Barney say 'fuck' in HL2?
I am not really interested in if you agree with swearing or think "everyone swears so it's cool" but more of the TREND in gaming. COD 1, 2 or 3 didn't have any F bombs.. yet Black Ops has a ton. Battlefield 1942 had no F bombs.. yet Bad Company 2 is loaded with them. Does it really make the game... better?
The second and third missions of Bad Company had 90% of the swears.
What is wrong with swearing? SHIELD MY EARS FROM THESE WORDS OH MAN THE HURTFUL WORDS! I can't believe people are so picky that they want to toggle bits of dialogue out now, because they don't like it? Why don't you just have an option to turn off the ability to die while you're at it? First people complained about graphics, then gameplay, and now fucking audio. Sorry OP, but you really need to deal with the fact that people 'swear' all the time, and that the're words with no meaning. Seriously, if words are offending you and only you, you should really learn to deal with it. It's never going to go away.
I live in Australia, and I can confidently say that you cunts need to man up. They're not even bad with regards to swearing, anyhow. Maybe swearing is a big problem in your small town religious nutbag community, but trust me, you're being silly if you're personally offended, or feel that it's wrong.

I do agree that for some games, it gets really annoying (BC2 & Crysis 2) but other than that I really don't care (much like everyone else).
swearing works well when it's not in Epic games ie saying fuck 3 times in a 5 word sentence like say in BFBC2, one of the lines when close to an explosion is "holy FUCK", that's acceptable because it's realistic

In Bad company 2 it adds to the atmosphere

It's never going to go away.
Not getting offended, I just don't like it when a writer resorts to HURR FUCK SHIT BALLS as their dialogue, in some attempt to get kiddies and morons to play their game. Of course in a war game some swearing is fine, but if you were in a war, I don't think it'd help when your call-outs were scrambled and triple-lengthened like "Oh fucking fuck me, that fucking guy is fucking hiding like a fucking pussy in that fucking place over there, the fucking place with the shitty green fucking walls, fucking get him with a fucking grenade he has a fucking rocket you fucks!" and everybody ended up blown to smithereens because your foul language wouldn't get to the point of whatever you were trying to call-out, so just saying it's a war game doesn't excuse them for just plain retarded writing.
Want some nice swears? Look at all the M rated games. Especially Mafia 2. Also whats wrong with swearing in games? People shout FUCK and SHIT and CUNT and DICK in real life. So why the fuck not in video games?

People do lots of things in real life, that doesn't mean I'd like to see some of the more disgusting and heinous shit people do in an otherwise enjoyable game.
I don't give a fuck; all of the games involving heavy swearing little kids shouldn't be playing for other, better reasons anyway.
I'm okay with swearing as long as it's either realistic or so over-the-top its funny. But some games (and movies, for that matter) fall into that uncomfortable middle ground that makes me embarrassed for the industry.
When used with an actual purpose, and with artistic talent, then I do not mind swearing. If it's just saying "fuckingshitcunts" for the hell of it, then it gets old after a while.
Not when you are on an Australian server.

People lie, steal, cheat, abuse children, take dumps, pick their nose etc... including all that isn't going to make my games better. "More immersive" is me waking up, showering and going to work every day for pittance and driving home in traffic. Count me out :)
People who get offended by swearing are a little... late. The way I see it, they are words like any other and used for expression. All words should be fair game full stop let alone in forms of creative media such as video games.
The thing that annoys me is that in Bad Company 2, the single player characters swear constantly, and in multiplayer nearly every situational thing your character says has swearing. But when it comes to me wanting to tell my gunner what a fucking cunt he is it gets censored and sometimes even kicks me. Why would people be playing an MA game if they are going to be offended by some stranger on the internet swearing at them.
My mum heard that, minutes after I promised her valve were cool and didn't put swears in their games.
Let's face it, if your mom doesn't think you are mature enough to hear 'swears' in a game, should you also be running about, killing things?
depends, does it make sense or is it like Scarface: The World is Yours (you stupid fucking fuck)

Shes a bit funny in her beliefs. She is fine with killing games she just hates swearing.
Nope, depends on the game, sure a badass with his own rules will swear in every sentence.
In the real world people curse and swear, when attempting to emulate human life, games try to be realistic. so therefor, cursing in real life=cursing in games
I think the only game that has ever gone near the Too much Swearing threshold is Rogue Warrior... "DROP DEAD MOTHER FUCKER YOU FUCKING AMATEURS"
Imagine a realistic war game. "HOLY FUCKING SHIT I JUST GOT FUCKING SHOT!!"
Anyone remembers that game set in North Korea that was pretty much based on violent death-moves. The main character was a real life action hero/voice actor ( I tought it was Steven Seagal ). The main Character couldn't get a single phrase out of his mouth withoud swearing. Like, 33% of what he said. EVERY phrase has a swear in it, it looks like the developers did this on purpose ( enemy spotted near that tower, I bet he has a small dick! ) Game turned out te be shit btw
no fucking way man there's not enough fucking swearing in god damn video games I seriously fucking think there should be more fucking swearing in video games fucking fuck nah I'm kidding profanity should only be used when appropriate or if you're making a game that shouldn't be taken seriously
I hate it when swearing sounds really forced in games but apart from that I tend to not notice it in games. For example look at LA Noire, the swearing in that fits so naturally into the dialogue that you don't notice it.
I only dislike the swearing because my parents could overhear it and get mad. Yeah, laugh it up.
I don't remember ever playing any of the earlier battlefields, medal of honors, etc. and ever thinking: "Oh man, this game just isn't immersive because of the lack of cursing." In fact I've NEVER heard that as a reason for a bad sense of atmosphere in any game.
