In terms of sound, they've definitely improved at least one car from prologue! And here's after prologue:
Basically, if you're into heavy realism, just get GTR 2, GTR Evolution or rFactor, nothing beats them when it comes to proper simulation, and learning curve steepness with it. Get a wheel too, they're unplayable (i mean really unplayable) without one. The point of the Gran Turismo and Forza series is to balance realism with accessibility, that's why they're so fun, anyone can pick a controller and feel like a pro with a couple of hours of training.
i play lfs with a ps3 controller and i'm like 5th on the hotlap leaderboard for blackwood
I made a GT megathread a while back but it died and had a super shitty OP. Oh well. I played the demo at a Target by me (yes, there are a few kiosks around the world that have an actual GT5 demo). It played great and handled well. I didn't see a lot of damage though and the rally car race was incredibly difficult.
Awesome to hear. How did it compare to Prologue? Or have you played Prologue?
I haven't played prologue. Sorry.
Grandturismo 2 is the best GT. I havnt played a GT since 3, I am looking forward to buying this.
Grandturismo 2 is the best GT. I havnt played a GT since 3, I am looking forward to buying this.
GT4 is basically GT2 with better graphics and a few differences in car/track lineup
I've already got a Playseat with a Driving Force GT that I use for racing sims that support it. Looks like this, except the seat is black:
:allears: how much did that thing cost you? and do you guys reckon with the release of GT5 a a new racing wheel will be released optimized for it? or something along those lines?
Oh yes, dynamic weather officially confirmed. And, also, some more news:
Laguna Seca has been completely rebuilt and will return for GT5. Trial Mountain has also been confirmed. “Gran Turismo Anywhere” will allow you to manage B-Spec races, right from your computer. You’ll be able to hold B-Spec races with your friends from anywhere in what are called “Remote Races”. GT5 will feature a series of special events such as the Karting Experience, the AMG driving school, The Stig Challenge, Jeff Gordon NASCAR School, Sebastien Loeb Rally Challenge, and Gran Turismo Rally. Point-to-point rally stages will be automatically and randomly generated – you’ll have to depend on your co-driver to give you the best instructions about the road ahead. Rally mode can be played either on or offline. Weather changes include temperature differences, air pressure changes, and humidity, affecting the surface conditions of the track dynamically. Weather conditions are randomized. Forecasts for your race will be available but may not be entirely accurate, just like the real world. Polyphony Digital has helped Red Bull Racing’s Adrian Newey design the X1 Concept – an “ultimate” racing car, free of any technical regulations. Polyphony Digital has worked to improve engine sounds. Yamauchi admits that, in certain situations – such as standing race starts in the rain with 15 other cars on the screen kicking up spray in front of you – the game may not be able to hold 60FPS. Otherwise, it will strive to hold 60FPS as often as possible. The Volkswagen Kubelwagen, which has a drive system like the first beetle, and the amphibious Volkswagen Schwimmwagen will be in the game. Many things didn’t make the cut in Gran Turismo 5, and work on Gran Turismo 6 has already begun.
Guys, how do you find the music throughout the whole series?
:allears: how much did that thing cost you? and do you guys reckon with the release of GT5 a a new racing wheel will be released optimized for it? or something along those lines?
The wheel cost me $120 or something, but the seat didn't cost me a penny (got it as a gift). They retail for a fair amount, though. And the DFGT (pictured there) is technically the official wheel for GT5.
The DFGT's a good wheel. I found it a bit low on features, but what is there is great. I ended up giving it to my dad and buying myself a G25, which has proven to be even better. More expensive, so I guess you get what you pay for either way. If the clutch and gear stick are that important to you, get a G25 or G27. If not, DFGT. I'm looking forward to GT5 a lot more now that I know it'll randomly generate rally stages. I suspect I'll be playing that endlessly, without the threat of memorising any of the stages. :D
Bit more info courtesy of Destructoid at TGS - Special Events first: (randomly generated rally, mmm)
At a showing of Gran Turismo 5's latest features at the Tokyo Game Show, Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi revealed the new special events section of the game, which are slightly different races created for Gran Turismo. There are six special events: Cart racing, an AMG driving school challenge, the TopGear logoed Stigh challenge, a Jeff Gordon NASCAR school, a Sebastien Loeb taught dirt track, and a rally mode. Yamauchi demoed the special rally mode live for the session. We saw that the stage was automatically generated before his race, and Yamauchi added that this happens every time the mode is selected, and that no two races will be the same. This event features delayed starts and a navigator that calls out corners and routes, just like real rally racing. He pointed out that players will race through multiple stages and will be ranked on cumulative times, and that this mode can be played both online and off. As you'd expect, Yamauchi was quite good at rally racing in his own game.
The new My Home screen was also shown - now you can access it from anywhere. Also, looks like there might be a lead time on certain cars (see Car Delivery)
Several new bits of online functionality were announced for Gran Turismo 5 today at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show. The My Home online section of the game includes functions like messaging, mail, logs, friend tracking features and more. The entire in-game My Home system will now be accessible via your internet browser in what Polyphony Digital calls Gran Turismo Anywhere. Everything that's possible in My Home on your PS3 will also be possible in any web-connected web browser. You'll be able to log into gran-turismo.com using your PlayStation Network ID. This functionality will be available at the game's launch, November 2. The Remote Races function of My Home is a B-spec mode of racing. It's not a real-time gameplay, but it is something that will now work on both your PS3 and in a web browser. You'll actually be able to participate with friends online from either. By keeping your PS3 on remote mode at home, your system will act as a server that will host games you play outside your home. Kazunori Yamauchi said that this is the first example of gaming that bridges the worlds of console and and browser games.
hhnnnggg
I lap Nurnburg in 7 minutes in Shift. Hueuehueuehueh

It's not the GTbyCitroën anymore, it's the GTfromSPACE.
It looks mad nice that's for sure.

I'll get GT5 for the rally. The concrete racing bores the shit out of me though.
prepare to be disappointed
I'll have DiRT3 as a backup.
i don't like racing games (except Mario Kart and that kind of games) but I have to admit Gran Turismo is a very good game. If this year I don't know what to ask for christmas, I'll give a try to GT5.
prepare to be disappointed
Have you tried the BB demo? The rally isn't Dirt 2 quality, but I felt it was a shitload better than GT4/GTPSP. But yeah, I don't have high hopes for GT5's rally sections. They're great additions, but meh.
BB as in Black Bean?
Best Buy. [editline]04:48PM[/editline]
[img_thumb]http://www.gtpla.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Trial-Mountain-Circuit_001.jpg[/img_thumb] new easter egg at trial mountain
I know about the easter egg, but damn I just noticed how great PD is at actually putting correct rubber markings on the track. They're seriously all in very good locations, and the ones on the outside actually look like someone came in too hot and had to fix it fast, whereas T10 was just like "fuck it, we're gonna just draw all over the track like the car wasn't feeling too confident in when to give traction to the wheels."
I don't care about damage, I have my PS2 sitting next to my PS3. The only game I play on it is GT4, which I probably play at least once a week and I'm still buying new cars in the game, on my save that I've played on over four years. I'd be perfectly happy with GT4 in HD on my PS3 :v:
It needs damage to stop the tactic of deflecting off other cars instead of slowing down for turns.
[img_thumb]http://www.gtpla.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Trial-Mountain-Circuit_001.jpg[/img_thumb] new easter egg at trial mountain
What about the monkey, is he still there?
I'll get GT5 for the rally. The concrete racing bores the shit out of me though.
There's a GT5 demo in a Target by my brother's house and from the short amount of time I was able to play, the rally racing was much more difficult than the other available races. If difficulty and realism is your thing, you'll love the rally racing.
I lap Nurnburg in 7 minutes in Shift. Hueuehueuehueh
With what car? And, http://www.gtplanet.net/new-gt5-menu-screenshots-my-home-special-race-events-more/ http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-menu-screens-show-tuning-options/ http://www.gtplanet.net/gt5-videos-bmw-z4-in-the-rain-daytime-la-sarthe-karting-in-rome-more/ And I hope they got the ability to play custom soundtracks. I really want to race with Ridge Racer tunes.
