• Is the default texturepack ugly?

I really don't get the cobblestone hate.
I like the default, but after trying Faithful 32x I just can't stop.
I'd say no, but I haven't seen any others so my opinion doesn't really count.

Its the best there is. Expect the cobblestone.
the only thing i dont like about default, is the wood. I much prefer linecraft's wood
Oh god that is awful.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm sorry my taste in textures isn't quite the same as yours.
You're welcome :downs:
The high-res texture packs just don't look right, imo. They just don't look Minecraft-y. Minecraft is supposed to be low-res and blocky and ugly in a pretty sort of way. :saddowns:
I use the default, as I haven't seen many good texture packs that I actually thought "Ooh, maybe I should get that" about, but I do agree that some things in the default are ugly, such as cobblestone and biome grass. Persoanlly, I don't have a problem with the windows. Sure, teh white marks block your view a bit, but it's a damn lot better than what I did without windows, which was look through the glass in the door.
the windows and the cobblestone are ugly... apart from that, its great, i use painterly though atm
I used to like the vanilla texture pack, but after trying out Painterly and Quandrary the vanilla textures look like shit. HD Textures above 64x64~ are horrible in my opinion. Completely ruins the art style.
I don't like brick cobblestone. It just doesn't seem right that you destroy some stone and it falls into perfectly arranged bricks rather than crude stones like the default texture.
Everything forms cubes in the Minecraft universe so maybe the structure of the rock causes it to shatter into blocks
Everything forms cubes in the Minecraft universe so maybe the structure of the rock causes it to shatter into blocks
I'd prefer cobblestone staying and having a seperate inexpensive way to craft them into brickstone, but that's more to do with the game than the textures.
the only thing i dont like about default, is the wood. I much prefer linecraft's wood
Linecraft faintly reminds me of Flakcraft. They both aim for a simplistic style, but Flakcraft is far less detailed. I like it, though, I hope it's up-to-date.
the default minecraft skin is good enough!
I like the default skin, cobble being ugly means that you have to work to make your buildings aesthetically pleasing instead of just having pretty bricks, when in reality it is all just one block.
I hate cobble and wood. Someone please make a pack with no brick cobble because seriously when the fuck does broken rock fall into bricks?
When does rock mortar itself together to make cobblestone?
Since when did punching wood with your bare hands make the wood break off in perfect cubes for that matter :colbert:
I use different texture packs depending on what I'm doing. Rarely stick to one.
I would prefer bricks, like cinder blocks, to cobblestone.
I hate cobble and wood. Someone please make a pack with no brick cobble because seriously when the fuck does broken rock fall into bricks?
Seriously, you're complaining about the realism of how something breaks in a game based on fucking blocks.
I think the default is nice, I'm not a fan of textures that try to improve on the default, I like packs that have their own completely unique style, like Jolicraft and Frendens Pack.
I think it's good, nothing wrong with it. If you get a different texture pack, use it for a while and start to really like it, the default then starts to look ugly.
I don't know what you guys mean when you talk about Cobble and Glass. I have no issues with them.
Cobblestone's texture doesn't pattern well. I think Notch should fix that. And I personally think obsidian should be a dark purple. It makes everything look an ugly grayish brown and the dirt looks like shit.
Been using painterly (thx sgtnapalm) and I went back to default didn't realize how hideous it was until after I'd been using painterly [editline]20th May 2011[/editline] so now I'm using painterly again
I haven't tried out Painterly, but I had a look and I like the different packs that are available. I think I'm going to have to manually customize it or something though, because I like the look of some blocks in some packs, but not others in the same pack. Also, the shattered moon option.

In fact, almost all texture packs are just terrible. Minecraft just doesn't look right when you try and add more detail than there was meant to be. Maybe 32x32 versions of the original textures, but that is about as different as I can bear before it just looks bad.
