I think the actual "skull girls" logo needs to be bigger, and maybe moved or with a different background; too little contrast between it and the background

You can't just resize an image without regard for its original size or dimensions and expect it to look good.
Personally (and I'm not saying it's the right way), when I have a big image that's full of content like the second one is (the HL one), I try to determine what the most important aspects are that I can fit in, and loose the rest. When everything can't fit (and still look good), I find it's better to lose some parts and maintain a good looking image rather than to distort the entire thing into fitting (and making it look bad in the process).
