A friend on FP gifted me Minecraft yesterday, my first singleplayer game was terrible and I didn't even survive the first night.
My second save though, well, it was a snow map and I've got this fairly expansive place with tunnels going all over the map, and this incredibly long tunnel that goes to the frozen ocean so I can get sand for glass, I'm in the process of minecarting it and I've gone through 128 tracks and I havn't even made it halfway. :saddowns:
It's probably not much of an accomplishment for you guys but for me I'm pretty proud of it, it's got a tall tower with lights so I can't get lost, along with a bunch of cactus pit traps so I can harvest animals or whatever without going out myself. :v:
How do you guys think I would go about modding minecraft? Decompiling .jar?

You should be able to unzip your minecraft.jar with WinRAR and modify it that way.

.class isn't really edit on the go. It's compiled.
Where do server maps get saved? I'm hosting from my PC and have no clue.

The directory the server's .jar or .exe file is in.

Wow. It's hilarious when you and 2 other people go on an exploration expedition, build a shack, thsn end up burning it down accidentally while laughing our asses off and going "Oh shiiiiiit!"

Nothing. They don't do anything in the game. They just help notch for when he creates new stuff in the texture.
You could just make them black and nothing would happen.

Umm... Does a redstone torch count? That's quite literally the only thing I've ever used redstone for...

I have a feeling that Minecraft compresses its saved games well. I tried compacting one down with KGB Archiver on maximum and despite taking over and hour it produced a slightly larger file.

I'd say they are quite well compressed then. At least this proves Notch is programming smart.

Wouldn't it be cool to have some sort of pouch or something, small enough to keep a few items only and it wouldn't disappear after dying.

Simply move it. The launcher will redownload it if it doesn't find it.
