Well technically you could go on until the map can't get any bigger going in a straight line on water, but the chances of that are about the same as the chances of that are really really low.
I've been thinking of trying multiplayer but it looks like there are a lot of different types of server.
What are the servers in the OP like?

You know what would be awesome? If, when detonating large amounts of explosives in a small area (like 6 TNT in a small 4x4 tunnel) the explosion/fire/expanding-gas was treated like a fluid (only that it would expand in all directions and decay after having expanded for a certain amount of blocks, the amount determined by the amount of explosive or power of the explosion). That way if you detonated like 20 TNT boxes in your mineshaft you'd have a wave of fire/hot gas filling up everything and expanding towards the exit.
