Obeying gravity and such.

So I just grabbed some iron bars from my chest in my strip mine, and came back up to the earth. I thought what the hell, I'll ride a wave of water down for fun. Star riding down and browser crashed. Bring it back up, and I have the bars I grabbed from the chest, and there were more inside the chest that I grabbed prior to the crash.

So, I learned creepers exploded the hard way. Came out of my noob fort after nighttime and there were still 2 creepers around, hit them toward my wall and boom, there goes the whole wall.

Since I wouldn't be able to swim far enough down without drowning, I would just place a pile of 10 of them or so above the water, break the block supporting them so they sink to the bottom. Only problem there is I think they would break a lot of the gravel blocks at the bottom with their weight :/

Even if it's just 45 degree angles (which are already programmed in perfectly in the form of stair blocks), it wouldn't really hurt the style THAT much to have a slanted block type. But there is a problem with slanted blocks, and Notch has addressed why he's not putting them in: They are far too hard to manage placing-wise. The sloped block would have to face you when you place it, and Notch said that'd require a lot of coding to get right. As it is now, stairs face you when you place them UNLESS there is a block on all sides except one, then it will face that way, and that just wouldn't be practical for building. Furnaces show this sometimes with the open end being off in some weird direction you didn't place it in. Long story short, Notch thinks the idea of sloped tiles wouldn't be too bad, they're just a bitch to code the way everyone would expect them to work.
