I don't know about you guys, but when the torches updated comes out, I'm going to hack and replace all my torches with lanterns.
I love when game is getting harder and the crybabies arise to protest. Personally i like games which want me desperate and dead.

I hope Notch replaces all torches with lanterns before implementing the timed torch thing.
The torches would be great for some quick cave exploration though.
I was against having torches die, but now that he's providing an alternative I'm okay with it.
I don't think I will play minecraft after he updates that torches die.
If he's replacing Torches, then the Lanterns should be brighter and light up more area than the Torches do.
I'm not really exited about the torches, but everything else sounds great.
