Actually, at my tech club, some guy said he played it, but was "not that into it", and not part of the communities or anything. He didn't really want to talk about it much, after all.
Got a school friend and an internet friend to buy it. Happiness ensued.
Fuuuuck, I don't really like the idea of torches vs lanterns, even if all existing torches will become lanterns.
I think the existing torch system works fine.

Honestly I don't think random things happening randomly would be enough, Notch needs to make random events that trigger random timers that count down, randomly, to random events randomly happening at random times.

Wouldn't work. The game would save the world files and the jar to %Application Data%, which means you'd have to start over every time you put the drive into a new computer.

On my server, whenever I try to make a mine cart, it spazzes out and does not work at all. Does anyone else have this problem?

It is a global server software problem and it will literally crash servers. I'd advise you to not do that in the future.
