I dont do this.
I do this:
1. make the acutal thing.
2. make the doorway.
3. use dirt to fill it, then break it away, layer by layer, and the water level will drain.
Well it's been forever and I have everything needed to grow it.

I was thinking about the armor system, and how the armor becomes less and less effective as your armor points approach 0, rather armor being constantly effective up until the point it disappears. It makes me hate wearing weakened armor, but at the same time I don't want to just throw it away.
I want to reconstruct it. That's my idea.
ARMOR RECONSTRUCTION:
Iron, Gold, or Diamond armor can be melted down into their component material in a furnace. The amount of armor points left in the piece of armor determines how much smelt is required to melt it, and how much resource you can reclaim from it. Every smelt will reduce the armor of the piece by 0.5 points (or if the armor is weaker than 0.5, whatever is left) and result in one component resource. So if you were to start reclaiming a sturdy steel chest plate and take it out of the furnace half-way through, you would have 4 bars of steel and a chest plate at 50% durability. Since 24 units of material makes one full 10-point set of armor, reclaiming could at max yield 20 units of resource, making the trade-off unideal at high durability, but favorable at low durability when the armor is closer to useless.
This would work the same way for leather armor, except you just throw it on the workbench and the appropriate number of cow hides are output.

Hah, if you're going to cheat, why don't you just open a map editor and do it. Especially if what you make is just some long square passage.
It really irks me when people show off their giant structures in Alpha and their inventory is full of diamond tools and TNT because they cheated.
Part of Alpha is actually making things yourself. Cheating isn't impressive at all.
Only exception is if they're making something really creative and impressive and they use cheats, but when it's just a shitty passage that takes no skill what-so-ever and they expect people to be amazed, it's just stupid.

I just made a huge house, spend about a good three hours on it, from below sea level to the top of the sky, then all of a sudden I was burning down trees for space (There were so many) And it caught my house, and now its gone.

Equip and right click while falling to deploy, wasd to steer in the air. Parachute un-deploys when you touch ground for later use. Unlimited uses. Skydiving and basejumping would kick ass.
