What I finally learned to do is bring a chest with me and put it near the start of the cave. When you've collected some valuables, just go to it and deposit them, then when you die (and you will die) All of your valuables are untouched. I did this when I found diamond, and then shortly died. I was feeling so smug, I had to air out my house just to get rid of the pure manifested smug cloud.

How do you people get lost in caves? Worst case, you just dig up. Now, I've gotten lost of the surface after digging my way up, but that was before I started making tower to mark locations.

when i'm in caves i ussualy leave trails of torches and when there are many passages i just get lost lol.

I just started leaving a double and triple torch solution to find my way back.
Someone already made a very nice one that everyone pretty much agreed to using.
Also, it seems extremely blurry.

Well, I was home sick today and played minecraft for the entire time
Day well spent
I turned it off peaceful and it still is being useless. Although this mining venture was a HUGE SUCCESS! I got about 150 iron, some redstone (not much, but I'm not that deep yet), about 20 gold, and ungodly amounts of coal.
