SMP is kind of half survival and half creative right now. Once the risk of dying is greater, ie when mobs and pvp work, it's going to be full out survival.

Well, of course, but the only things you have to watch out for are lava, drowning, and high drops.
I'm talking monster slaying, and raging at getting blown up by creepers.
When I'm talking about the survival aspect, I mean monsters, so I really hope monsters'll be able to hurt you soon (and you able to hurt them, obviously).

SMP is pretty much creative because every server I've been on people have been spawning stuff for themselves and admins claim they don't but they do.

Go to a server that has no item spawning, then. TheHANGOVER's doesn't have item spawning except admins spawning items.

Destroy the mob spawner and put up a LOT of torches so it's not dark in the dungeon/cave/mine.
