Man I love that song,
The fact that you can play in two modes seems so lame, they are probably gonna make two shitty engines instead of making a good one. Also the game looks ugly as fuck.
For me, the only thing that can save Sonic would be an entire 2D game with sprites or something like that.

derp derp derp
remember the mod flipside for half life 2? yeah. thats a sidescroller on a first person engine, i think they can put a sidescroller into a 3rd person engine..

Jesus.
Fucking.

Im sorry but thats really fucking picky to just want sprites again, its like when the fanbase complained about Sonics green eyes, who cares about that.

They're using one engine.
There were these one sonic games for the computer on CD were you could go super sonic where he turns yellow and gets all hypered up. Does anyone know what they were called?

And if you say it is because it's "cartoony-looking", then you have to be kidding me. It's a SONIC game. It's supposed to look like this.
Batman Sonic is hilarious, though.
That ain't Batman Sonic...it's much worse...Im going to have Nightmares again fuck you Tv Tropes
I'm not gonna argue with you guys anymore. We are obviously gonna get nowhere.
I already said my point, the game looks ugly for me and the "HOLY FUCKING SHIT this is so retro wow the dreamcast and genesis era woooooow so ooold school my entire childhood is in this game" thing isn't gonna save it for me.

Then I guess you can't be saved either

Sonic & Knuckles Collection. I know I played that shit on Windows 2000.

Well those were more complaints about Sonic's overall character in the later games, with more dialogue, more needless friends, as well as his entire body structure changing, not just the green eyes.
Oh man, debug mode on sonic & knuckles.
Super Sonic monitors everywhere.

So you tell us the game is ugly despite it not really being so (unless you're complaining about how Old Sonic looks) and get pissy about the whole retro factor as a selling point - but want a Sonic game with 2D sprites like the old games this is trying to nostalgia to? What?
Also, you seem really hostile about newer Sonic games. In the 'all modern sonic sucks shit' kind of way.

Oh man. You really have no idea how engines work, do you?
I don't know why I keep reading this thread.

Because they are doing the whole nostalgia thing in a lame way, just by saying "here, take some retro levels". Also they are making two different ways to play the game... c'mon, they should make only one good way to play it instead of making two shitty ones.
And yes I'm hostile about new Sonic games, they all suck, even the design of Sonic since the Adventure games is horrible.
Bring on those dumbs.
Some nice gentleman took the Green Hill Zone remix from the gameplay footage and tried to make it into a proper song, however the sound effects are intact. Still nice though.

Okay, for one thing this is the 20th anniversary game, of course they're throwing in some classic levels. Secondly, they made 2 different play styles so both types of Sonic fans could enjoy the game. They knew that when people played the games with only Modern Sonic, the Classic Sonic fans were not happy, so they included both. Every type of Sonic fan can enjoy it this way.

I beg to differ. Sonic Colours and the day levels of Sonic Unleashed would like to have a word with you.
The game was made to celebrate an anniversary. Rule of thumb says it's either a reboot or a pure nostalgia trip. It obviously isn't the former so I'm fine with my nostalgia. Colors and (Daytime) Unleashed were really enjoyable, and the 2D physics look spot on (at least compared to Sonic 4, though I know that doesn't say anything). Color me hyped. If nothing else, it was a creative way to bring back levels. Even if you've seen everything in the game before, there will be another way to experience it, justifying the sure-to-be 60 dollar price tag.

Even if it was just nostalgia, it wouldn't really affect the game's quality, as a lot of the older levels were quite good.

Yeah, I know, I would just find it difficult to pay full price for what is essentially a "Greatest Hits" without the new gameplay from either 2d/ 3d Sonic.
If this has a chao garden I will buy it just for that.
For Mario's 25th anniversary they didn't make anything new, they just re-released Super Mario All-Stars on the Wii in an admittedly awesome box. It was great for me because I've always wanted to play All-Stars, but it was still lazy.
I can't help but wonder how the Adventure levels will play out, those were really more platforming, Unleashed is about zooming and retro Sonic is about sidescrolling.

Not to mention the fact that it was a port of the classic All-Stars. At least Sega is putting way more effort as they're making large environments with lots of classic assets.

Erryday, man. I gotta bust out my Genesis again for good old times.

Ah well, here's hoping for a better 30th anniversary. Hard to believe Mario has been around this long.

All of Mario's games and even the spinoffs have been great up to this point. Sonic's been kind of hit and (most of the time) miss since the good old days.

I never said trhowing classic levels was bad, I'm saying that just doing that instead of making a real effort sucks. I know why they made two play styles, but I'm pretty sure they are going to be two shitty-made ones, they should do just one. More doesn't mean better.
I tried Unleashed and I though the whole game sucked, I did not enjoy the day levels. Haven't tried Colors yet, but everyone says that is cool so no problem with that, It may be an exception.
And for me the graphics look bad, they are going for the easy way: making 3D models. And this is my main problem, 2D gampeplay with 3D models just looks bad in this game.
You know what, I was thinking... I may just dislike Sonic games. They are doing an "ok" job with this game, but I still think they can do better.

This pissed me off, I heard that it had a soundtrack spanning every game so figured it had a ton of music, 10 songs I heard a million times and instead of 10 more songs it was just sound effects
The commentary art book with never before seen art (yeah fucking right) had nothing interesting other then Miyamoto going "Yukyuk I like making games" and in general it was a waste
Bravo to Sega for putting effort into this.
