I've played him, he's good, but not OP, and his skills take a lot of health out of him. I will be playing him almost exclusively until people realize his weaknesses.
So, having just played my first actual game of this, I have so say. It feels really slow. As in, really really slow. I assume the matchmaking put me in a group of new players because I sort of killed them with no issue. Must say though, I enjoyed the steam golem hero with the hand grab, felt like an interesting take on pudge/devourer. Not sure I like this whole rune thing though.
Games get faster as your ELO increases, and players will start to get better. You'll occasionally get an hour long game, but that's not very common. Every Summoner's Rift game goes for at-least 25 minutes, after that you can try to get your team to surrender. What exactly don't you like about the runes? I'm used to me being able to look at a hero and size up his capabilities. This rune thing seems to be a behind the scenes changer of stuff, same with summoner points.

It takes 50 secs for garen's passive to regen 50% of his hp It takes 43 secs for garen to go back, refill all his hp, and come back with t1 boots also garen has to stay away from creeps, any hit from anyone stops it. So Garen either has to control the brush(Which might or might not be hard), or run back away from exp. Or he can recall and come back, because the passive is that much garbage.
Are the servers down? I can't connect through the launcher, and I can't connect to their site.

And you can usually guess which champions have which runes. DPS champions like Ashe will have armor pen, mana-less champions like Katarina will have CD reduc, champions that have skills which require health like Mundo or Mordekaiser will have some sort of health regen, squishy champions might take health quints. While they provide boosts, they're usually only noticeable early game and they really only help you stay in lane a little longer. You won't notice the difference when you're fighting, unless it's something really stupid, like a full crit chance rune set or a full AP set. If someone buys a rune set like that, they will be a huge pain for your team early game, and a huge pain for their team late game.
